snydeq writes "Turning off PCs during periods of inactivity can save companies between $25 and $75 per PC per year, according to Energy Star, savings that can add up quickly for large organizations. Yet most organizations remain behind the times on PC power management, in large part due to common misperceptions about PC power, writes InfoWorld's Ted Samson, who outlines five PC power myths debunked in a recent report from Forrester, ranging from the energy savings of screen savers, to the energy draw of powering up, to the difficulties of issuing patches to systems in lower-power states."

knapper_tech writes "The scope of the auto industry troubles continues to increase in magnitude. The call to retool and develop new vehicles has been made several times already, but with all of the challenges from labor prices and foreign competition, how exactly can the industry retool itself to be more competitive? In light of superior competition facing losses, there doesn't seem to be enough room in the industry moving forward. In the context of finding a new place in the auto industry, the future isn't bright. Calls for no disorderly collapse of the cash-strapped big three and a reluctant congress can only point to an underlying lack of direction. However, consider two other standing economic challenges. The airlines have continued to struggle due to fuel prices and heightened security.

The metadata model defines all the data structures existing in the enterprise as well as how those data structures will interact within the application integration solution domain. Once constructed, the enterprise metadata model is the enterprise's database repository of sorts, the master directory for the application integration solution. In many cases, the repository will be hooked on to the application integration technology and used as a reference point for locating not only the data, but also the rules and logic that apply to that data. However, the repository is more than simply the storage of metadata information. It is the heart of the ultimate application integration solution, containing both data and business model information.

"The first key item in this wearable PC is the PC itself. A device like this needs to be small, pocket sized preferably, with a good battery life, a reasonable amount of power, and a good feature set. Years ago, such a device was a pipe dream, given that batteries, processors, and even the so called "portable computers" were really anything but portable, powerful, or long lived. Yet if you look around you right now, that's exactly what we have. Powerful, portable devices with good battery life. Take for example your cell phone. Typically, most modern cell phones have more processing power than most PC's from the 90's could ever dream of. Even your iPod or PMP likely has more power than they did."
