Popular JavaScript Framework Libraries An Overview Part 3: related news

Popular JavaScript Framework Libraries: An Overview - Part 3

Unless you're working on your MySpace or Facebook page, you're almost certainly going to want to use a JavaScript Framework. They handle much of the browser hacks and general ugliness that comes with Web development and allow you to focus on the task at hand. Moreover, they provide extra functionality with controls and effects that can really add pizzazz to your site! In part one of the series, we looked at the Prototype, script.aculo.us and MooTools Frameworks. Last week, we turned our attention to three strong contenders for the title of Framework supremacy: JQuery, the Yahoo! UI Library (YUI) and MochiKit. This week we continue our overview of the twelve most popular JavaScript Frameworks with the Dojo, Rialto and Spry Frameworks.

Is JavaScript Ready For Creating Quality Games?

kumpetan writes "After seeing so many games built with JavaScript, and considering the applications it powers and the use of Ajax, it seems like web developers are now in the game development pot. It is getting easier and more popular with libraries like jQuery, MooTools, Prototype, etc. There are even libraries like Game JS, GameQuery or JavaScript GameLib, specifically for this purpose. So, will we start to see more ambitious game projects arise using these tools?"

Using Google`s Ajax Libraries API

Google's new client-side API lets you download some of the most popular JavaScript libraries directly from its servers. If you're interested in dabbling with AJAX, there is no faster way to get your packages and get started. This four-part article series, of which this is the first part, will help get you on your way.

In search of the real 'Billy the Kid'

Billy the Kid still rides through the Old West of the American imagination: part reality, part myth; part outlaw and part instrument of justice; part hero and part homicidal maniac. John Vernon's fictionalized account of Billy the Kid's life starts with the only known photograph of the man, probably taken around 1880, when Henry McCarty (his birth name) would have been around 20, and a year before he was killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett. Vernon describes the man in the picture as "draggle-tailed." With his buck teeth and heavy-lidded eyes he looks, to me, undernourished, detached and slightly deranged, as if only dimly aware of where he is and what he's doing.

Evergreen Indiana Adds More Libraries, Goes Double Digits

The Evergreen Indiana shared catalog has grown to fourteen libraries, now that Jennings County, Brownstown, Melton, Butler, and Odon Winklepleck Public Libraries have migrated to Evergreen, the consortial-quality open-source library automation software. These five libraries join nine public library systems already part of this consortial catalog administered by the Indiana State Library.

Chinese Companies Go Abroad (Part 2: The Consumer Electronics Sector)

The following is part two of a ten part report evaluating the progress of key Chinese industries as they expand overseas (see the introduction to this series and part 1). CMR interviewed several hundred key executives in each of ten industries to better understand the extent of their globalization thus far, their goals and plans going forward, and the major challenges they are meeting along the way. This section describes the opportunities and challenges facing China's consumer electronics industry.

Blu-ray Disc Application Development with Java ME, Part 2

Java technology is a critical part of the new high-definition video standard: the Blu-ray Disc standard. This article is part 2 in a two-part series of articles that introduce developers to the Blu-ray Disc Java (BD-J) APIs. Using the BD-J APIs, developers can create Java ME applications for all Blu-ray disc players, including the Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console.

Building a Blogger with the Code Igniter PHP Framework

People love to communicate, which may be why one of the most popular web applications you can develop is a blogger. In this six-part series, you'll learn how to develop a blogging application using PHP and the Code Igniter framework. In this first article, we'll create the bare bones structure, with plenty of code samples to help you understand the process.

Left 4 Dead Demo Includes Linux Steam Client Libraries

SheeEttin writes "If you've been longing to play games from Steam on your Linux machine, you may not have to wait much longer — the Left 4 Dead demo includes some Linux libraries, in particular, one named 'steamclient_linux.so.' While the game's full release does not include these libraries, their apparently accidental inclusion in the demo suggests that Steam games will have native Linux clients in the near future. (A job listing at Valve looking for someone whose responsibilities would include 'Port[ing] Windows-based games to the Linux platform' would seem to support this.) The libraries also include several strings nonessential to a pure server, including references to forgotten passwords. Hopefully, this indicates that at least some Valve-affiliated games will have native Linux clients.

Polishing the Visual Presentation of a Blogger with the Code Igniter PHP Framework

This series of articles is aimed at demonstrating how to build a blog application with the Code Igniter PHP framework, which relies on the functionality offered by the MVC approach to create full-featured PHP programs. Thus, if you’re interested in learning how to build a program like this, then start reading this tutorial now! It is the fifth part of the six-part series.

Google and the libraries

In 2004, Google signed a deal with five major research libraries to digitize all the books in their collections. "Google's mission is to organize the world's information, and we're excited to be working with libraries to help make this mission a reality" proclaimed company cofounder Larry Page. It looked like an encouraging first step toward a world in which all knowledge was online, all the time.

Is Finding Part Time Work In IT Unrealistic?

I like my current job writes "Having worked full-time in IT for the past 12 years, I would really like to work less and focus on other goals and priorities in my life. I asked my current employer and was shot down. It seems like everyone I know in IT works full-time except for entry-level help desk staff. Striking out on my own seems to be the only way to control the ball and chain around my ankle. However, my experience with independent consulting is a 'feast or famine' situation, with work coming all at once, thus making part-time impossible, or the other extreme (which is even more likely). Is part-time work a pipe dream in IT? Maybe a career in toilet cleaning is calling me."

GlassFish and MySQL, Part 2: Building a CRUD Web Application With Data Persistence

GlassFish and MySQL This is the second article in a series of articles on GlassFish and MySQL. Part 1 of the series describes the advantages of using GlassFish with MySQL and illustrates why the combination is a perfect choice for developing and deploying web applications. In Part 2, you'll learn how to develop a create, read, update, delete (CRUD) web application that uses GlassFish and MySQL. The application uses the Java Persistence API implemented in GlassFish to manage data persistence.

I still hate JavaScript

I know, it's anathema to be a Web developer in this age of Ajax and fancy DHTML pages and hate JavaScript, but I admit it, I do. Luckily as SitePoint points out, Dreamweaver CS4 has a number of features that make writing JavaScript, I won't say fun, but at least less hair-rendingly annoying. I find the Live View most useful, as it can tell me when something isn't going to work before I upload it to the server and rip out another chunk of hair. I consider that a nice present from Adobe.

iPhone rivals Canon 40D in popular Flickr cams

Apple's cellphone line is now competing with digital SLRs for the most popular cameras used on Flickr, according to the photo site's Camera Finder. The site shows the iPhone's two-megapixel unit as responsible for roughly as many photos as Canon's EOS-40D and is near other considerably more expensive cameras in the ranks, such as Nikon's D80 and Canon's Digital Rebel XT. The iPhone is also unambiguously the most popular cellphone and maintains a very high lead over the next-best Nokia N95.

Google Unveils China's 2008 Most Popular Search Terms

The only U.S. name to make Google's 2008 most popular keyword search list for China was NBA (National Basketball Association), at No. 10. In fact, the NBA was the only non-Internet company to make the list, with the others all popular Chinese sites for news, videos, file sharing and more.
