You Too Could Be Batman In 10 To 12 Years: related news

You, Too, Could Be Batman In 10 To 12 Years

jmcbain tips a fascinating interview in Scientific American with a professor of kinesiology and neuroscience (and a 26-year practitioner of Chito-Ryu karate-do). The question was, how much training would it take for a normal person to become Batman? The professor says: "You could train somebody to be a tremendous athlete and to have a significant martial arts background, and also to use some of the gear that he has, which requires a lot of physical prowess... In terms of the physical skills to be able to defend himself against all these opponents all the time, I would benchmark that at 10 to 12 years." The problem is, even after that amount of training, no one could remain on top of their game for more than a few years. And "Batman can't really afford to lose.

Too Human Did Not Take Ten Years

"Too Human's release on the Xbox 360 is edging closer and closer and with that, TGR sat down with Silicon Knights CEO Denis Dyack at this year's E3 to talk about the upcoming release of Too Human. One assumption that everyone makes in regards of Too Human is how long it took to develop, starting on the Playstation 1 and finishing up on the Xbox 360 with ten years of development time. We thought it was about time we got to the bottom of this and asked Denis himself."

LEGO Batman PS2 Bundle Comes With Game and Justice League: New Frontiers for $149 (But No Bat Logo)

Coming this Fall to North America is the LEGO Batman PS2 bundle, which includes the LEGO Batman game and the Justice League: New Frontiers flick for $149. I would buy this machine if it had a Batman logo on it, especially if it was released in the next two days as my Batman slobbering becomes fully torrential leading up to Thursday night. Still, not too bad.

EU Plans To Extend Copyright; Turns Copyright System Into Welfare For Musicians

Just as we feared, the EU has now approved copyright extension of performance royalties from 50 years to 95 years. This is basically an approval to steal from the public. The public made a deal with musicians 50 years ago: give us music, and we'll give you performance royalties for 50 years. The musicians accepted that, and it was a worthwhile deal for them. Yet, now, the government has decided to change the deal, remove that content from the public domain and give it to the musicians for another 45 years. This is, simply, bad policy. It encourages the exact wrong behavior: telling people that the public will pay them for work they did many many years ago over and over again. This doesn't encourage musicians to continue working and it doesn't encourage them to be fiscally responsible and save for retirement or anything.

Comet explosion 12,900 years ago may have altered course of life on Earth

Washington, July 3 : New geological evidence has suggested that the course of life on Earth was altered 12,900 years ago by a giant comet exploding over Canada.

'Diablo III' Producer Plays Down 'Too Human' Comparisons (Too Human)

"Both recent and early impressions of Silicon Knights' "Too Human" have said that the upcoming Xbox 360 title's loot, skill tree and combat systems are similar to that of past "Diablo" titles. Some previews even proclaimed that "Too Human" is "Diablo III" before the Blizzard game was even announced.

Exploding Asteroid Theory Gains Evidence

About 13,000 years ago, woolly mammoths roamed the North American continent and the first known human society in that region, known as the Clovis civilization, lived there as well. But geologic and archeological evidence shows they both suddenly disappeared, and scientists have long debated the mystery of the mass extinction of both animals and humans about 12,900 years ago. At that time, climatic history suggests the Ice Age should have been drawing to a close, but instead rapid climate change initiated an additional 1,300 years of glacial conditions. But scientists couldn't agree on the cause of the sudden change in climate. However, about two years ago geophysicist Allen West proposed that an asteroid or comet exploded just above the earth’s surface at that time over modern-day Canada, sparking a massive shock wave and heat-generatin

Pakistan cricket needs new priorities to relive glory days

THE fourth chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), appointed by former President Pervez Musharraf over a period of nine years, resigned last week. In the preceding three years of the Nawaz Sharif government, the PCB had three chairmen. So, we have had seven chairmen over 12 years or an average tenure of less than two years each. Not long enough to make a meaningful impact on the structure of cricket in Pakistan, but long enough to do considerable damage, in some cases, to the fundamental structure of the game in the country.

Too Human Demo: Vindication for Denis Dyack

Consoleme.ca writes: Everyone knows the long and sordid history of Silicon Knights' new game for the Xbox 360, Too Human. It had a terrible showing at E3 in 2006, is part of a huge lawsuit against Unreal 3 engine maker Epic Games and is being led by one of the industries most outspoken individuals in Denis Dyack. Since that poor showing in 2006 Too Human has been on its heels trying to repair the damage done by an on-floor demo that was crippled by an incomplete Unreal Engine and in a form not ready to be seen by the public. For Dyack, this battle has raged on now for almost 3 years…and is finally about to come to its dramatic conclusion. The game is finally releasing in August of 2008 and, as promised, Canada's own Silicon Knights have released a demo for a game many not only expect to fail, but want to fail.

50 Years of NASA

Fifty years ago this week NASA was born. On July 29, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the "National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958." NASA replaced NACA, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, to meet the challenge of exploring beyond Earth, and in particular, to send a human into space. NASA has accomplished a lot during the last 50 years, and now its time to celebrate. To commemorate the anniversary, NASA has developed an interactive multimedia website that provides a historic tour of its first five decades of exploration. It's a fun and interesting site that offers lots of history and a little look at the future, too. The site combines historic and current video with entertaining computer animation, and the virtual exhibit takes a World's Fair approach to NASA history, with pavilions that host each decad

E3 2008 - LEGO Batman - Xbox 360 Preview

The past LEGO games have always been simplistic fun, though a few puzzles here and there can be rather frustrating. The LEGO games have also always relied on previous movies to provide the set pieces and story. LEGO Batman marks the first time a completely original story is being developed in conjunction with the tried and true LEGO formula. Whether you want to fight crime as Batman or do evil as the Joker, LEGO Batman looks to impress fans of all ages.

One of the questions posed by TheGameReviews.com asked how the response has been to the Too Human demo that was released on Xbox Live to the general public this Monday to which he responded, by saying he is "ecstatic" about the response Too Human has had. He didn't give any specific numbers, but did ensure us that the demo has been downloaded "a lot."

Frotz: Zork On The iPhone

frotz.jpgThis is going to date me in a big way, but during the years when I was about 12 to 15 years old I spent a little more time than I’d care to admit playing games like Zork and Planetfall on my Commodore 64. These games had no graphics. They were text based, or as the company that made them often said, “the graphics are in your mind.” Infocom, now an all-but forgotten division of Activision, was the company that put them out, and they were for an early generation of computer users, the games of choice. Intricately thought out, yet humorous in a goofy 1980s computer-geek sort of way, finishing an Infocom game was as joyous and yet at the same time bittersweet as finishing a good book. They required a kind a patience that is too rarely found these days.

Building our own asteroid

LIFE on Earth has had its ups and downs. Over the past 4 billion years, it has barely survived five mass extinction events, each most probably triggered by a collision with an asteroid or comet. Some 250 million years ago, nearly 90% of all sea species and 70% of all vertebrate land species suddenly became extinct. About 200 million years ago, another collision wiped out roughly half of all species, and ushered in the age of dinosaurs. Then 65 million years ago, an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs and made room for the age of mammals including, eventually, humans.

EU Proposes Retroactive Copyright Extension

I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "EU Commissioner Charlie McCreevy has unveiled a plan to retroactively extend musical copyrights by 45 years, which would make EU musical copyrights last 95 years total. Why? They're worried that musicians won't continue to collect royalties when they retire and this will give them an additional 45 years during which they won't have to produce any new music. Perhaps the only good point is that the retroactive extensions won't take effect for any works which aren't marketed in the first year after the extension. Additionally, while there are many non-musical retirees wishing they could get paid for 95 years after they finish working, McCreevy has not announced any new plans to help them."
