Just two days after the release of Firefox 2.0.0.19 and the official cut-off date for all updates to Firefox 2.0, Mozilla announced its plans to make available Firefox 2.0.0.20 as soon as possible. On December 17, Mozilla explained that it had managed to ship an incomplete Firefox 2.0.0.19 build, and that, in this context, yet another update for Firefox 2.0 was required. In this manner, even though Mozilla had planned to kill off support for Firefox 2.0 with the launch of version 2.0.0.19, the successor of Firefox 3.0 has got a reprieve, albeit small in any real significance. It seems that only the Windows version of the open source browser will get an additional breath of fresh air.

While working to produce the first Release Candidate of Firefox 3.1, Mozilla has made available for download two new releases of codename Shiretoko's precursors. Firefox 3.0.5 and Firefox 2.0.0.19 went live on December 16, 2008, and are now up for grabs along with Firefox 3.1 Beta 2. As it had warned as early as mid-2008 with the launch of Firefox 3.0, Mozilla discontinued supporting Firefox 2.0 as of December 16. In this regard, Firefox 2.0.0.19 is the last release for version 2.0 of the open source browser.

Firefox 2.0 is officially expired, again. The precursor of Firefox 3.0 was initially planned for expiration on December 16, 2008, with the availability of Firefox 2.0.0.19. Version 2.0.0.19 was supposed to be the last security and stability update for Firefox 2.0, and Mozilla came very close to bringing these scenarios to reality.

BPM, SOA, and Web 2.0 currently are three of the hottest (and arguably the most hyped) technology strategies, with BPM and SOA a little more mature than Web 2.0. Enterprise adoption and convergence are fundamentally changing how IT and business (or mission) stakeholders work together. Because of the dynamic differences in the use and perceptions of these different technologies, there are both opportunities and threats for organizations. This white paper introduces a series or research studies and case studies exploring the BPM, SOA, and Web 2.0 convergence.

Mozilla plans to update its popular web browser, Firefox, to version 3.0.5 this upcoming Thursday. This new version will mainly target users of the old version of Firefox, 2.0.0.18, who have not yet upgraded to version 3.0 after it was released more than five months ago. Even though Mozilla would like users to upgrade, those who want to use the old version may still download it from various websites, as it will be supported until 2.0.0.19. After this final update of version 2.0, which is supposed to occur this month, Firefox users will be notified that their version is no longer supported, and will be advised to upgrade to version 3.0. Mozilla also is planning a major update to Firefox, slated for early 2009, though it does not yet have a version number associated with it.

The existence of semantically tagged Web pages is crucial to bring the Semantic Web to life. But it is still costly to develop and maintain Web applications that offer data and meta-data. Several standard Web engineering methodologies exist for designing and implementing Web applications. This paper introduces a technique to extend existing Web engineering techniques to develop semantically tagged Web applications.

Last week I posted a list of the Web hosting providers you think are the best and worst. This week, I took a look at your reviews of Web editors. There aren't as many reviews of Web editors as Web hosts, I guess most of us just don't get as passionate about our editor as we do about our hosts. But it's interesting to me to see the differences between how I review Web editors and the reviews my readers give. Find out what About.com readers think are the Best Web Editors and the Worst Web Editors. If you are interested in having your review included in the tally, you should either submit a full review online, or click on the "write a review" link at the top of a review of your editor. Comments on this post are happily received, but will not be included in the tally of best and worst Web editor.

I've been looking for the best Web page editor for years now. When I started designing Web pages, Web page editors didn't exist. I used vi or Notepad or SimpleText (now TextEdit) and was amazed that I could even read the stuff I was writing, let alone have it make Web pages. Then I learned about a tool with a name that inspired me - "Dreamweaver". Isn't that what I wanted to do? Weave my dreams into reality? Of course, my boss had a different idea and bought me the program "FrontPage". I couldn't afford Dreamweaver on my own, and after 10 minutes of using FrontPage (version 1), I was back to writing HTML in my text editors. But since then, I've started looking for the best of the best Web editors. In that quest I've downloaded and evaluated over 130 Web editors on Windows, Macintosh, and even Linux.

A recent video demo shows speeds that are 3.5 times faster than USB 2.0. The USB 3.0 drivers will be submitted to the mainline kernel when the eXtensible host controller interface (xHCI) specification reaches a 1.0 release."
