Several readers pointed out a ComputerWorld UK blog piece on the expanding ripples of the Vista fiasco. Glyn Moody quotes an earlier Inquirer piece about Vista, which he notes "has been memorably described as DRM masquerading as an operating system": "Studies carried out by both Gartner and IDC have found that because older software is often incompatible with Vista, many consumers are opting for used computers with XP installed as a default, rather than buying an expensive new PC with Vista and downgrading. Big business, which typically thinks nothing about splashing out for newer, more up-to-date PCs, is also having trouble with Vista, with even firms like Intel noting XP would remain the dominant OS within the company for the foreseeable future.

Gamasutra is running an opinion piece praising recent horror-action game Dead Space for its pacing and gameplay while simultaneously criticizing the plot and the attempts to scare the player. Quoting: "What Dead Space is, is carefully and stylishly unoriginal. You'll love playing it, but when you aren't playing it, it's hard to say what's so great about it. It has some really great set pieces, some sweet effects, solid gameplay, an amazing interface and that's all. Anything and everything having to do with dialogue and story comes off as rote. ... You get the feeling the developer are trying very hard, though. When I see a dark shape in the distance, which turns and disappears, I don't get scared. I know he'll pop out of a vent later! Likewise, when I find a scientist who promptly slits her throat because of the horror, I just check for a

Remember the dead pool? No, not Clint Eastwood's fifth and final Dirty Harry movie, but the internet graveyard that became a byword for failure during the last dotcom crash. In the lowest days of 2000 and 2001, the topic of who would be next to sink into the dead pool became a Silicon Valley obsession, with websites like FuckedCompany gloating over the collapse and closure of scores of startups.

It was less than a year ago that Valve unleashed the Orange Box onto the world, showering gamers with a collection of some of the best games of the year, including Portal and Team Fortress 2. This year, it looks like Valve has done it again with the release of the Turtle Rock Studio developed Left 4 Dead, a zombie shooter that not only supports co-op gaming, but downright demands it. Left 4 Dead seems to take just about every zombie movie cliché, tosses them in a blender and hits frappe. What you get afterwards is a deliciously inspired gaming experience that seems to always get you to jump and scream, no matter how many times you play through the various campaign maps, whether it’s from the unseen attacks from smokers and hunters or the ominous rumbling (and ensuing cursing) from an approaching tank.

BEIJING, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Motorola has won a contract to upgrade part of China Telecom's network for advanced multimedia services, the U.S. telecom gear maker said in a statement on Tuesday. Motorola will provide CDMA infrastructure in 42 Chinese cities, which would be installed in early 2009, the company said, without giving any price or other details. It is the second announcement about 3G network upgrade work awarded to a foreign company in recent weeks. Alcatel-Lucent said in early December it had won a $230 million contract from China Telecom to provide CDMA equipment in 56 cities. Foreign equipment makers are eager to secure such contracts as China will award 3G mobile phone licences by the start of 2009 and the government has said at least $29.

Dead Space Downfall is an anime movie that tells the story of all of the events that lead up to the game, it's 74 minutes long and it's got a few other features included on the disc. Is it a must have movie? Sort of, it does help to understand the game better, but the actual movie isn't that great honestly. The animation reminds me of more of a child's Saturday morning cartoon than the anime I'm accustomed too, I love anime and this isn't quite it, it's bastardized or Americanized anime at it's worst really. They tried to copy the stylish Japanese animes of the past and present but failed rather miserably, they also mixed computer generated images in with it and it sort of looks a bit out of place. EA should have hired some real talent for this, the game deserved it really and they could have had a great movie on their hands that would ha

The interactive entertainment industry has witnessed a lot in all respective genres over these years, which isn't really a bad trend if you consider the number of choices the gamer of today has across platforms. Even though abundance has shined over almost every genre, those scintillating, incredibly intense and spine-chilling horror titles have always been hard to come by. Sure, we've got legends such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and even Siren, but that's pretty much everything that the genre has had to offer to the new seekers thus far. When Dead Space was first announced by EA, it was pitted to bring classic horror and the “from space, no one can hear you scream” kinda atmosphere, and gladly, that's exactly what Redwood Shores have managed to deliver-a superlative, dark entertainer, and most certainly, one of the best survival h
