Yahoo! Inc. announced that it will offer users the ability to opt-out of customized advertising on Yahoo.com. This new option expands Yahoo!'s existing opt-out program for customized advertising served by Yahoo! on third party networks. Yahoo! announced the new opt-out capability as part of its response to a Congressional inquiry about customization sent to 33 companies from the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This new opt-out capability is expected to be available for consumers by the end of August. Users will be able to access the opt-out in the Yahoo! privacy center, which is linked on the home page and nearly every page on the Yahoo! network.

.06% opt out: NebuAd hides link in 5,000-word privacy policy

The ISPs that use NebuAd's boxes routinely argue that they provide robust notification to customers before deploying the gear, and that any customer not thrilled about having her browsing data routed through a third-party ad-serving box can opt out with just a single click. But what happens when you're "robust notice" takes the form of two paragraphs buried inside a 5,000-word privacy policy and you don't even e-mail your users to point out the change? Well, now we know: only 15 of 26,000 people opt out.

Google, Yahoo allow users to opt out of targeted advertisements

The ongoing US Congress investigation into online advertising seems to be having an effect on some of the companies as Google and Yahoo announced plans to allow users to opt out of targeted promotions on the Internet. While Yahoo announced a new one-click opt-out policy yesterday, Google made it possible to opt out of both Google and Doubleclick ad targeting with one click the day before. Mac Bloggers Pay Attention to iPhone Reviews, Pay Visit to App Store, Pay Respects to Fake Steve

For the Mac blogosphere, it was a week of out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new. In: A new 3G iPhone. Out: Fake Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO's snarky online imposter. In: Apple's new MobileMe service. Out: Apple's old .Mac service. In: The App Store. Out: Web apps -- well, they're still around, but the App Store lets users buy third-party software and run it natively on an iPhone or iPod touch.

Claiming tax-exempt status

As a manager, I hold orientations for new employees that include filling out the W-4 form. Most of my employees are teenagers and never know how to fill it out. I know that I should not advise them on how to fill it out so I have them call their parents. All I know that I can tell them is that they would either put zero in allowances taken out or exempt on line 7. Different parents give them different directions.

iPhone apps help your friends find you

The iPhone's Maps app and Google Maps on the Web are great tools for figuring out how to get somewhere, but only if you know the precise--or at least rough--location of your destination. (Obvious, I know. Hear me out.) But what about those times when you're out and about, trying to meet up with a friend, and neither side can figure out exactly where the other is? Solving that problem is the goal of a slew of new apps for the iPhone.

Competitively priced at $129 (for a two computer license), owners of Phase One’s Capture One LE can upgrade to 4 free of charge, and Capture One PRO users can use CO4 free until the next generation of PRO is available. MP3 player to fade in and fade out

What MP3 player out there will also fade in and fade out from one song to another? Kind of overlap songs... (I got some songs that start 10 seconds in, and if they could fade in before the previous song ended - that would be great)
