Wii moves past Xbox 360 in the USA says NDP

The North American market has been the stronghold of Xbox 360. It was out far before the competition and as a native company many found Microsoft's new video game console to be a trustworthy product. Xbox 360 has been the most sold console in the USA since the launch, but Nintendo has ended that era according to NDP Research. After only 20 months on the market it has sold 10.9 million Nintendo Wii consoles throughout the USA. This is just thousands more than the number of Xbox 360 consoles sold in the USA, which has been on the market for 32 months. I think we can conclude that Nintendo was right not to get involved in the tech war between Microsoft and Sony.

Xbox 360 $299 Confirmed?

There have been rumours doing the rounds of an imminent price drop for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. This US price drop follows a similar move in the UK. Could an Indian price drop be far behind? If so, the Arcade may be getting bumped entirely, with the Premium taking its spot at $299.99 and the rumored 60GB model priced at $349.99, or perhaps MS will drop the price on the Arcade from $280 to $250 to take on the Wii directly, while the Premium will sell for $50 more than that?

New Xbox 360 Dashboard Experience Installable On Hacked Xbox 360s

Some leaky monkey at or near Microsoft has just dumped the new Xbox 360 Dashboard "Experience", also known as the fall update, onto the internet. For most of us, this means that that we've got new videos like the one above that illustrate some of the features we didn't get to see at E3. For people who have a hacked Xbox 360, it means they can actually install this and try it out for themselves, but risk brickage in the process. This reminds us of the story of the tortoise and the hare, except instead of animals you have super nerds that want to install stuff months too early. [Xhavok87 via Xbox Scene]

Xbox 360 Price Cuts Arrive in Australia, US Probably Following Soon

Normally we'd skip over Australia-only news, but the official Xbox 360 price cuts there most likely means those rumors of a drop in the US are pretty much locked in for sure (even if the European price reduction a few months ago didn't cross over). Kotaku says all three models got slashed, "with the Arcade down $50 to AUD$349, the Pro down a whopping $180 to AUD$499 and the Elite down $80 to AUD$649." With the new sticker of $349, the Xbox 360 Arcade is actually cheaper than the Wii, which is $400. Toilet flushing and the seasons aren't the only things backwards down there now. Nintendo Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music

Here at the E3 2008 games expo, I got the chance to spend some quality time with early builds of Nintendo's latest 'Wii Series' games: Wii Sports Resort (a sequel to Wii Sports) and Wii Music (once planned as a Wii console launch title). The early verdict: Both deliver the irreverent fun you'd expect, coupled with some crafty control methods that you perhaps wouldn't. Both are sure to be popular – even Wii Music – though I'm still not 100 percent sold on it.

E3 2008: The New Xbox 360

Taking cues from both Nintendo and Sony, the Xbox 360 is lined up to make its console the best it can possibly be by “stealing everyone else’s ideas” (as fanboys would call it, not that it matters since the Wii desperately needs to rip off Xbox Live before you can even take a Nintendo game with online support seriously), with a series of announcements at the Microsoft summit about new features that will be made available on the Xbox 360 this Fall.
