Rumor Uncharted Movie in the Works: related news

Rumor: Uncharted Movie in the Works?

With its style firmly rooted in old pulp adventure magazines, Uncharted wasn't exactly the most original action-adventure game last year. That didn't stop it from being a hell of a lot of fun, though, and apparently it's not stopping it from making the jump to film, either. Joystiq reports that "a well-placed source" close to the deal has confirmed that the film rights to Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 action game have been optioned by Atlas Entertainment (not to be confused with Atlus), who have previously produced such films as Three Kings and Fallen.

Orphan Works Legislation Would Be A Small But Important Step Toward Copyright Reform

We've long promoted the common-sense idea of orphan works legislation. Orphan works are works still under copyright whose present owners are unknown. This is a serious problem because there's no way to license orphan works and a big risk of a subsequent infringement lawsuit if they're used without a license. My co-blogger Jerry Brito has a post examining a pair of bills (one in the House, one in the Senate) that would address the problem. Under the proposal if someone is unable to find the owner of a copyrighted work after a diligent search, then the work could be used without the fear of a crippling lawsuit later. If a copyright holder comes along later, he won't be able to obtain draconian punitive damages. Rather, the court would estimate how much a reasonable licensing royalty would have cost and assign that amount to the copyright ho

iTunes finally reaches 1,000 movie mark, a few months late

When the iTunes movie rental service first made its debut, it didn't take very long for someone to point out that the Emperor didn't have any clothes (or in this case, that Steve didn't have many movie rentals). Only 400 or so movies were available when the target date for 1,000 rentals, something that we thought might be due to the slowness of licensing agreements from the movie studios. Apple and the studios seem to have gotten their acts together, though. Macworld found in its most recent checks that the iTunes Store now boasts over 1,000 movie rentals.

Pre-order sales of Bella DVD Make it #1 Selling Romantic Movie on Amazon.com Over Weekend

May 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Confirmed reports of the movie Bella so far saving at least 15 mothers and their babies from abortion has spurred its producers to recently launch their bella 10 campaign. The campaign is an unusual, grassroots targeted promotion strategy designed to give individual fans of the movie lots of practical advice and tools to convince 10 people to order a Bella DVD who would in turn convince 10 others to do the same. The campaign asks the rhetorical question, "Can a movie really save a child's life?" to emphasize that by promoting or even giving away purchased copies of the movie lives will be saved.

Movie studios could be behind missing iTunes rentals

When Steve Jobs announced iTunes Movie Rentals in January, he promised that iTunes would offer at least 1,000 movie rentals by the end of February, of which at least 100 would be HD rentals. Since then, everyone just assumed that would actually be true. But now that February is over, Macworld has tallied up all of the movie rentals available on iTunes, and has found that Apple has fallen short of its own mark.

Google Skype Acquisition Rumor - If true, it could be good for the VoIP industry

Every so often, a rumor starts going around that Google will be purchasing Skype. That rumor is back in action again today; as usual, Skype has refused to comment on the rumor. Others are happy to speculate about it, though, and there have been some interesting arguments provided as to why its an acquisition that makes sense for the VoIP industry. The short summation of those arguments is that Skype has the potential to lead the VoIP industry, having been a central player in computer voice communications for years, but that it needs to turn a bigger profit in order to stay in business. An acquisition by Google would give Skype the potential to earn ad-based revenue and start making some real money. For its part, Skype has outlasted a lot of rumors about its demise, including a recent surge in traffic after predictions that the company wo
