Nintendo Wii Fanboy E308 Sega confirms some kind of DLC for Samba: related news

Nintendo Wii Fanboy E308: Sega confirms some kind of DLC for Samba

Nintendo Wii Fanboy reports that Sega sent out a press release announcing their upcoming releases, hiding a bit of news among the tentative release dates. In the blurb about Gearbox's new version of Samba de Amigo, Sega confirmed the existence of "over 40 songs and additional downloadable tunes." Will they cost money? Probably! Given the choice between getting money and not getting money, even Sega probably knows what to choose.

Nintendo Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music

Here at the E3 2008 games expo, I got the chance to spend some quality time with early builds of Nintendo's latest 'Wii Series' games: Wii Sports Resort (a sequel to Wii Sports) and Wii Music (once planned as a Wii console launch title). The early verdict: Both deliver the irreverent fun you'd expect, coupled with some crafty control methods that you perhaps wouldn't. Both are sure to be popular – even Wii Music – though I'm still not 100 percent sold on it.

With new Wii Sports, Wii Music, the Wii's future is casual

Nintendo's press conference held few surprises, but a new Animal Crossing, Wii Sports, and the announcement of Wii Music show that Nintendo is more dedicated to the casual market than ever. Ars reports from Nintendo's E3 press conference.

Hillcrest Labs Sues Nintendo to Keep the Wii Out of America

Now this is interesting. Hillcrest Labs is suing Nintendo, trying to create an import ban on the Wii. They claim that Nintendo is infringing on a number of their patents relating to the Wiimote and the on-screen menu system on the Wii. The whole thing doesn't make a lot of sense to us, as we were under the impression that both Nintendo and Hillcrest Labs licensed their tech from Gyration. We're looking into this now, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that an import ban on the Wii is pretty unlikely. Hit the jump for Hillcrest's full press release.

Wii Sqweeze Gives You the Upper Body Strength Of An Olympic Cyclist

This Wii Sqweeze demo by InterAction Labs supposedly does for your upper body what Wii Fit does for the lower body of the 10 people who actually managed to find one. The thing is essentially two squeezable grips (exactly like the kind you can get at sports stores now) that correspond to claws and bows and other activities on screen. It's not a real Wii game now, but just a PC demo running off a Wiimote tied via USB to a Wii. Could it be a real Wii game? Sure, but unless it's got Nintendo's name and advertising attached to it, we don't think it's going to do that well. [Exergamelab]

Comcast Makes Wii Give Away Promotion Official - Starting today for triple-play customers...

Some additional information on the free Wii promotion that insiders leaked last week now comes via more official channels: From today until August 17, 2008, new customers who sign up for Comcast Preferred Plus or Premier Triple Play package will receive a complimentary Wii system. A Comcast insider also tells me that potential Wii warriors will need to pass a certain credit screening threshold "to be determined by market"; if they don't pass, they will be required to pay the $250 Wii deposit to sign up for the Nintendo Wii offer.

Nintendo Unveils Wii MotionPlus

Tim MacDonald writes "In a pre-conference announcement at E3, Nintendo has unveiled the newest accessory for the Nintendo Wii — the Wii MotionPlus. The Wii MotionPlus combines with the Wiimote's accelerometers and the Sensor Bar to give true, almost 1:1 matching of motion. More to come during Tuesday's conference." If all these battery mods and add-ons to the Wiimote continue my controller is going to start looking less like a controller and more like a quarterstaff. Looks like the wrist strap is going to have to go through another round of beefing up.

Nintendo Partners Ramping Up for Wii MotionPlus

One of the highlights of the E3 Nintendo conference was clearly the company’s new Wii Remote attachment, the Wii MotionPlus - particularly as featured in Wii Sports Resort. Today, two key Nintendo partners came out of the woodwork.

'Mario Kart,' 'Wii Fit' Whip Nintendo Into Shape in Q1

Stellar sales of games like "Wii Fit" and "Mario Kart Wii" -- not to mention sales of the Wii console itself -- made for a strong fiscal first quarter for Nintendo. It expects to sell 25 million more Wiis in the coming 12 months. Less impressive were sales figures for the Nintendo DS, the company's portable gaming system.

Patent lawsuit aims to block Nintendo Wii in US...

Technology license holder Hillcrest Labs today sought to draw support for its cause by publicizing a lawsuit against Nintendo over its Wii console. The Maryland-based plaintiff claims that Nintendo's Wii remote is violating four US patents relating to a spatial controller and on-screen interface for content on TVs. The Japanese electronics maker is knowingly profiting from the Wii in the US without licensing the relevant technology, according to the complaint.

WII-CONSOLES.CO.UK PUTS GAMERS ON FAST TRACK FOR NINTENDO'S WII FIT

But savvy shoppers searching for this virtual gym can avoid the run around thanks to real time stock alert website, ( http://www.wii-consoles.co.uk), which checks supplier websites around the clock to find out when and where the latest consignment has landed.

Several Nintendo Controllers may be Banned

Nintendo may soon have to halt sales of its Wii Classic Controller, GameCube WaveBird, and the standard GameCube controller. A suit was brought against Nintendo by Anascape for violating its patent for a "six degrees of freedom interface device." Sony has been licensing the technology since 2004 and Microsoft settled out of court. Nintendo, however, decided to go to trial, and the judge ruled that Nintendo was indeed in violation of the patent and not only owes $21 million, but may also have to halt sales of the three aforementioned controllers. Nintendo has appealed the ruling, so for now, they can continue to sell the controllers. However, if you've been considering purchasing one, you may want to do so sooner rather than later.

Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play."

kryogen1x alerts us to coverage at 1up indicating that Nintendo controller may soon become scarce — Nintendo lost in court to Anascape over analog sticks in their Wii and GameCube controllers. This isn't the first time the big manufacturers have been targeted in lawsuits involving features in their controllers. From the article: "The lawsuit concerns the analog sticks in the Classic Controller and GameCube controllers, which Texas-based Anascape Ltd. claims to hold a patent on that Nintendo violated.
