Epic Games, Inc. and Del Rey, an imprint of Ballantine Books at the Random House Publishing Group, announced today that Del Rey will publish three novels set in the gritty world of Gears of War video game series. The first novel, Gears of War: The Battle of Aspho Fields, written by Karen Traviss, will go on sale October 28, 2008.

The one and only Cliff Bleszinski popped up on the NeoGAF forums where the latest video of Gears of War 2 was being discussed, to clarify the Longshot sniper's abilities. Responding to a remark claiming that "active downs with the Longshot are still existent in Gears 2", Cliff denied the claim, stating that the Longshot will not have insta-down abilities in Gears 2.

Last month, there were rumors of a limited edition of Gears of War 2 that will include a Lancer Assault Rifle, in a move that will follow the steps of the Halo 3 Legendary Edition that featured the Master Chief helmet. The rumor was partially true. There will be such an edition of Gears of War 2 that includes a replica of the Lancer Assault Rifle, but a bundle put together by Amazon.com rather than an official edition created by Microsoft Game Studios.
