X-Play's Best Of E3 Awards Tonight!

E3 might be over, but x- play is not done by a longshot. X-Play returned to the air to bring their Best of E3 Awards. This year's E3 brought a list of titles of unprecedented quality, but only a few were able to garner our label of Best of E3.What did you think of the decisions? Did LittleBigPlanet really deserve the title of E3 Best Of Show? Or should it have gone to revolutionary first-person action title Mirror's Edge?

DS, Wii Totally Cooling Off In Japan

Kotaku: In 2006, the DS ruled Japan. (Heck, in 2007, too.) The hardware was hard to come by, and things got so back in 2006 that American DSes were re-imported into Japan to satisfy the demand. Things have tailed off considerably. According to Nintendo’s Q1 FY3/09 statement, DS hardware sales dwindled, moving 580,000 units in Q1 this year. In last year’s Q1, Nintendo moved a staggering 2 million plus DSes. Hardware isn’t the only thing that suffered; DS software sales are down as well. Last year’s Q1, 979,000 units of DS software were sold, compared to this part quarter’s 493,000 units of DS software.

Gamespot: E3 2008 Editors Choice Awards

The event known as E3 has gone through more than a few changes in recent years. Up until 2006, it was inarguably the single biggest, most important trade show and event in the entire game industry. This year, E3 returned to the hallowed halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center, but in a different way. The event itself no longer occupied the entire venue (restricting itself primarily to the central Concourse Hall), and it changed its name to the E3 08 Business and Media Summit. Still, there were plenty of very impressive games on hand, and GameSpot made sure to bring you live coverage every day of the show, both from our editorial writing team and from our live stage show, which broadcast demonstrations of the most exciting games at E3 2008--and exclusive demonstrations of a few other games that weren't at the show and couldn't be

Wi-Fi multiplayer for GTA on Nintendo DS

GTA: Chinatown Wars is all set to bust its way onto the Nintendo DS this summer. And while the E3 announcement was pretty slim on details, Rockstar has just launched its teaser website, giving us a slightly better idea of what to expect.

E3 08: Chrono Trigger DS Playable

"The biggest shocker is that the rumored-now-fact Chrono Trigger DS port is going to be playable on the show floor. I can't wait to see what kind of touch-screen doodads Square has chosen to add to the already phenomenal game."

Did E3 Just Gasp Its Last Breath?

Ian Lamont writes "This year's E3 is over, and there's already talk that this could be the last one. Even before the conference started, a slew of studios announced they wouldn't be taking part, citing high costs and other 'business reasons.' At the conference itself, 'there were no huge game announcements, and Microsoft didn't even bother having Bungie show up to talk about the next Halo release, claiming that the company wanted to "shorten the presentation."' Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello said he 'hated' E3's new format, adding 'either we need to go back to the old E3, or we'll have to have our own private events.' Crave also noted there are no solid plans for next year's show. On the other hand, people have predicted E3's demise in previous years, and they turned out to be wrong.

Update: Chrono Trigger DS Confirmed

That, my dear friends, is what we in the business like to call "Hope for the Future." In what was looking like it would be a huge slump for the DS, with all the Zeldas and Star Foxes and Advance Wars done and gone, it was looking like the DS was going to end up in a Yankees-like rebuilding year with everyone involved denying this was the case. But Square-Enix has dropped a proverbial bombshell on us with what appears to be a teaser site for a DS installment. Clearly, there isn't any sort of information regarding...anything. No screens, movies, info...or even actually saying that it is, indeed, Chrono Trigger (though the clock and the "CTDS" at the end of the URL suggest it). Expect some info to come up during E3. In the meantime, check out MyGamer for more updates as they come available.
