I was fortunate enough to grab a Little Big Planet Beta key from Eurogamer a few days ago. In short, Little Big Planet is FUN. I had more fun than I expected to have while playing the demo. The game just oozes creativity and when you encounter one of the very many instances of this creativity you cant help but smile or chuckle. The game presents itself at first as a puzzle / platformer of sorts but there are robust creation modes that makes it much more than just a platformer. The video only capture of a small part of the demo.

We know you're tired of waiting for our Little Big Planet beta key giveaway, but spending upwards of $60 on eBay probably isn't the brightest alternative. Still, that's exactly what many gamers are resorting to. We've even heard horror stories of people being suckered into paying shipping and handling for the email-delivered beta keys -- perhaps victims of the King of Town's controversial email tax from Strong Bad Episode 2

Little Big Planet was heralded as the PlayStation 3 game that would appeal to all demographics and divert some of the mainstream attention towards the PS3 that's currently focused squarely on the Wii. It seemed like it was on track to do just that and be a huge seller in October. Then came the controversy surrounding lyrics in the game's soundtrack that included quotes from the Quran which resulted in a recall and subsequent delay, pushing the game back from its October 21 release date in the U.S. to October 27. While that might have not been a big deal in and of itself, the recall most certainly cost Sony a fair amount of money and also likely hurt the game's October sales.

Merlin42 writes "I recently took a Test-Driven-Development (TDD) training course and the teacher recommended that I read "Working Effectively with Legacy Code" by Michael Feathers. First things first, a note about the title. Feathers defines "Legacy Code" a bit different than you may expect, especially if you are not into the XP/Agile/TDD world. I have heard (and used) a number of definitions for "legacy code" over the years. Most of these definitions have to do with code that is old, inherited, difficult to maintain, or interfaces with other 'legacy' hardware/software. Feathers' definition is 'code without tests.' For those not into TDD this may seem odd, but in the TDD world, tests are what make code easy to maintain. When good unit tests are in place, then code can be changed at will and the tests will tell automatically you if you bro

Many Gamestops have started to sell Little Big Planet after it was delayed for a week due to offensive content contained in one of the levels. This seemingly quite launch is only for pre-order customers as the shipment seems to have been over-nighted with the newly repressed discs. So for those of you with a pre-order with a local Gamestop, it might be worth the effort to make a phone call to see if your copy is in early.

It seems Guitar Hero World Tour isn’t the only game dealing with copyright infringements. As Kotaku reports, complaints are spreading across the official Little Big Planet forum, with players’ arguing that their custom levels are being "moderated" -- or, to use less euphemistic language, "deleted forevermore" -- without warning or much explanation from Media Molecule. But there seems to be one common thread tying together many of the deleted levels: use of copyrighted materials.

CWmike writes "Just a day after downplaying the vulnerability that caused it to issue an out-of-cycle patch last week, Microsoft warned customers late yesterday that exploit code had gone public and was being used in additional attacks. 'We've identified the public availability of exploit code that now shows code execution for the vulnerability addressed by MS08-067,' said Mike Reavey, operations manager of Microsoft's Security Response Center, in a post to the MSRC blog. 'This exploit code has been shown to result in remote code execution on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.'"

A team of French astronomers using ESO's Very Large Telescope have discovered an object located very close to the star Beta Pictoris, and which apparently lies inside its disc. With a projected distance from the star of only 8 times the Earth-Sun distance, this object is most likely the giant planet suspected from the peculiar shape of the disc and the previously observed infall of comets onto the star. It would then be the first image of a planet that is as close to its host star as Saturn is to the Sun.
