Michael Shorrock, Sony's director of third-party relations, announced on the Playstation blog that he's been working with the major music game developers (i.e. Rock Band's Harmonix, Guitar Hero's Activision, and others) to ensure basic compatibility for peripherals between the games. Joystiq has a compatibility matrix that shows which devices work with which games. "...Rock Band 2's guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution. Conversely, Rock Revolution's drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2. In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones. We're still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles currently on the market, and we hope to have an announcement on that shortly.

DarkZero: The US gaming show X-play has shown Rock Band 2 being played for the first time on a recent episode of their show. Interestingly, the video showed a list of eleven songs from the games set list. Two of these songs were current DLC, and had a star beside them to signify so. The other nine however had a "2" icon beside them which seems to indicate they will be released as songs on the disc of Rock Band 2.

Buried on the 11th paragraph on a story about Rock Band 2, The Associated Press reports this morning that 12 tracks from The Who "ranging from 'My Generation' to 'Who Are You' will release for Rock Band on July 15." Neither of those tracks are from the long-awaited album Who's Next, but at least this is something, right?

"Not too long ago I was told how MTV Games' Rock Band 2 would be different from the first Rock Band. I was among a group of games reporters in a small theater at the Los Angeles studios of Electronic Arts. The makers of Rock Band 2 were giving a demonstration. Later, they let us play the game, but I was feeling too sick to jump on the drums, wield the guitar and sing. (I did feel well enough to block the game with my head).

AC/DC fans left underwhelmed by developer Harmonix's choice of "Let There be Rock" for Rock Band 2's setlist may have other options soon enough. Originally posted on Darkest of the Hillside Thickets singer Toren Atkinson's blog, one screenshot was intended to showcase the in-game presence of the costumed, H.P. What caught the attention of eagle-eyed Rock Band addicts, however, was the song immediately below that one: "Shoot to Thrill" from AC/DC's legendary 1991 show at Castle Donington.

If a new Guns N’ Roses song and a massive track list wasn’t enough to lure you over to Rock Band 2, the game also plans on rolling out a ton of playable full album downloads in the months following the game’s release in September. Among the albums reportedly getting the video game treatment are the Foo Fighters‘ The Colour and the Shape, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Jane Addiction’s Nothing’s Shocking. MTV Games opted to add more full albums this time around after the first installment of Rock Band found post-release success after making Judas Priest’s Screaming For Vengeance and Pixies‘ Doolittle after for download. “We’re surprised by how many people opted to get full albums,” said MTV Senior Vice President Paul Degooyer.

Kotaku: Not that this will matter to any of you on a practical level, since we pray you won't actually pick up a copy of Guitar Hero Aerosmith, but it's good news on principle. Seems that Rock Band controllers will work with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, with the G4TV team testing the 360 version and finding that all functions - including the whammy bar and star power - are up and running. Seeing as the problem was always at Activision's end (GH controllers would work with Harmonix's Rock Band), have they swallowed their pride and opened up the music controller market? Appears so, at least for 360 owners. Let's just hope this carries on into Guitar Hero World Tour, where it might actually matter.
