1080p hdtvs are harder might sell than think
Never mind the fact that most people can’t tell the difference in sets smaller than 50 inches, never mind that there’s not much available content if you don’t own a Blu-ray player or a next-gen game console: You have to have 1080p. Or at least that’s what you might think if you listen to HD gurus. Despite the hype, the 1080p revolution hasn’t exactly taken off as quickly as you might imagine. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is predicting that just 34 percent of TVs sold this year will be 1080p sets.

Brevity and quality are the only things the 16 films in this collection have in common. Some are first efforts or early attempts, others are experiments, others still are simply stories too short to demand feature length. There are no set rules here, but it's a useful primer on world cinema. While you might be familiar with plenty of the names involved - Guillermo Del Toro, Park Chan-Wook, Andrea Arnold, Alfonso Cuarn, Alexander Sokurov - chances are, even completists and fans haven't seen all of these. Some directors show their style developing early - such as Jane Campion's A Girl's Own Story and Sylvain "Belleville Rendez-Vous" Chomet's The Old Lady And The Pigeons - others are seen tackling subjects outside of what they're known for - Del Toro's awesome Dona Lupe has little supernatural about it.

missb writes "According to NewScientist.com, online gamers are no 'couch potatoes'. US researchers quizzed players of the role-playing game EverQuest II, and found adult gamers to be in better physical condition than the average American. The downside, however, was the gamers reported more cases of depression and substance abuse than their compatriots."

We have a large variety of devices out there now. With Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Palm, Nokia, the Iphone, and Google's G1, many would call these smartphones. But as I look around the web I've read that some say devices like the G1 or iphone are not smartphones. Some say they are multimedia phones. When I compare my Dash and my Iphone, there are definitely some differences but there are also many similarities. They both play music, videos, handle all my appointments, contacts, ebooks, bible, internet, email, camera, and so on. So what do you all think? Are all the devices mentioned smartphones? Are some smartphones and some not? Does it matter if the device has a touch screen or not? And of course the real question: What makes a smartphone a smartphone?

The fastest growing user base of iPhone owners are lower income people, who are using the multi-purpose device in order to ditch other Internet and entertainment services, according to comScore (NSDQ: SCOR), which is releasing its first report detailing iPhone demographic data on Thursday. ComScore found that while 43 percent of iPhone owners earn more than $100,000 per year, the strongest growth in users is coming from those who make between $25,000 and $50,000. Between Jun and Aug. 2008, users in this income bracket jumped by 48 percent, making it three times that of those earning more than $100,000 per year. Overall, iPhone penetration grew 21 percent. âThese data indicate that lower-income mobile subscribers are increasingly turning to their mobile devices to access the Internet, e-mail and their music collections,â said com

If you search the Web you can find hundreds, if not thousands, of SEO companies making sweeping promises about what their services will provide: "#1 on Google", "top ranking in search engines", "rank #1 for every keyword". You name it, if it sounds to good to be true, it is too good to be true. But now, these scam artists are being sued in court. SEO is more an art than a science, and techniques that work one day might not work the next. And tricks that are fine in one search engine might get you banned from another.

No matter what anyone says, it's not feasible to test in every browser ever made, even if, by some stroke of luck, you had access to all of them. There are just too many. So even the best Web designers will test in as many browsers as they can, while focusing on the most important browsers (often called graded browser support). But how do you decide which are the A+ browsers and which are the F? I've had a number of other browser polls on this site, but this time I'm asking you which are the 3 most important browsers to test your Web pages in. You can vote for more than 3, but I'd ask that you don't. Thanks!

The entire stock market is taking another drubbing today, and Google is no exception. Its shares tried to rally in the morning, but are now trading below the $329 they closed at yesterday. That’s a key price level Google employees are watching because a huge chunk of their options (1.7 million across the company) were granted with a weighted average exercise price of $329.78. The options are worthless under that price. In addition to that, there are another 5.7 million options that were granted at weighted average exercise prices of $450 and above. (see table below). All told, 61 percent of Google’s stock options granted to employees are currently under water.

Are these the same people who figure that the PS3 will sell 150million units by 2016? Where do you draw the line between wishful thinking and the real world? It is not like as if current DVD owners are all sitting at home complaining about the poor picture and sound quality and wishing that they could get a product that sorted the quality out. And have none of these number crunchers ever heard of rival technologies, such as downloads, which will greatly errode the physical media share of the entertainment business?

I found this article today Is Your Web Design Ready To Socialize? that suggests that most websites can benefit from some sort of commenting or interactivity. Do you agree? I've had various methods of interactivity on this site, from comments, to forums, to submission forms. Some work better than others at getting customers engaged. I think that is partially due to what I'm writing about. After all, if I've posted an article that explains what the a tag does, how much are people going to want to talk about it?

Video game sales are expected to be strong this year, and in 2009, despite the economic troubles that have hurt some of the retail stores that sell the games, industry executives said yesterday. Speaking at the BMO Capital Markets Interactive Entertainment Conference in New York, they said their optimism is fuelled by solid sales of advanced gaming consoles made by Nintendo Co. Ltd., Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. As the Wii, right, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are expected to be popular during the holiday shopping season, consumers are also likely to buy games to play on them. "I think it's going to hold up a lot better than other industries," said Mindy Mount, chief financial officer of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division. "We remain cautiously optimistic.

thricenightly writes "After more than 20 years in IT I've learned that the most valuable people in a team are frequently the old timers. Young pups straight out of college might (think they) know all the latest buzzwords and techniques, but in the real world, where getting working products delivered on time and on budget is of paramount importance, people who have been doing the job for a decade or two tend to be the people I'd rather be working alongside. I've recently been elevated to a position where I get to interview and choose those who get hired in my department. Although I'm very much focused on choosing the right person for the role regardless of age, experience or whatever, it's probably fair to say the more mature applicants will get a more sympathetic hearing from me than they might from most other interviewers for IT roles.

Its late at night and you are trying to regain yourself from a tiring day. You easily fall asleep but then the phone rings. Who that caller would be? You might think it is important so even when you dont want to get up, you must. What if the call is important more than you think? So you are obliged to answer. The bad thing is that nobody answers. What is the meaning of that? It could be a prank caller that cant do anything but to annoy anyone. This case is not new to anyone. Anyone can experience being annoyed by somebody. But dont take it as it is because you can do something about it. Why not? Get closer to that caller. He cant hide with those numbers. You can chase if using those numbers.

Reader Terry Westley points us to yet another example of how companies are recognizing that content is advertising. Disney has apparently released a free iPhone game that's fun on its own, but which also serves to help promote an upcoming movie release. While some will dismiss this as just being a cheap way of advertising, you have to wonder what happens when movie makers start making these sorts of games really, really good. Then what happens to game developers who think they can get away with charging for their mobile phone games? Suddenly it becomes a lot harder to support that model if there are other businesses that are using a model where, the more games that are given away for free, the more it helps the rest of their business.

Nigel, I only get to laugh at you dude on your ignorance. Do you think we need aussies to generate money. only aussies need indians to generate money. Look at you Micheal Hussey getting ready to play for super kings instead of western warriors. Even if Bangladesh or Zimbabwe plays cricket with india, the stadiums will be atleast 75% full. So It is india which is the economic power of cricket. Americans are dominating the political world because of the economic might and indians are doing so in the cricket field. Loud mouthed and white skinned aussies have gotten away with all the abuses and sledges so far and say that indians are worst behaved. The biased verdict against indians are invariably passed by white skinned match referees. Why should we accept these racial decisions.

The growing number of small food vending establishments along the roads of Guyana has created great concerns for the health of Guyanese, and foreigners as well, who oftentimes are unaware of the conditions under which the foods they consume are prepared. These foods are sometimes prepared amidst the movement of heavy traffic and pedestrians where there is a great amount of dust and exhaust fumes in the air. Foods are also prepared in filthy conditions and in dilapidated snackettes that are surrounded by uncollected garbage. These conditions are ideal for food contamination.

There are no sections that tell you details about C#, SQL servers or anything like that. I don't recommend this book if you never worked on a .NET project and don't know how to set up a SQL database. You should be aware that the code is written in C#. You might use one of the software code converters if you prefer Visual Basic instead. I think the code is still readable even if you do not know C#. I appreciate the fact that the authors decided to use one language only because it keeps the book smaller. From now onwards I will be posting 5 Linux commands weekly and mostly targeted to Linux newbies or to those who are not much comfortable with Linux commands. This post will serve two purposes: to learn Linux commands in a fun way without putting so much load on your memory power (that’s why I will post only five commands), and to realize the power of wonderful Linux commands. You might be already familiar with some of the commands and you might be hearing some of the commands for the first time; some of the commands might be very useful and some might be just for fun. This post will appear on Fridays so that you can have some ‘useful’ fun on weekends. If you know any Linux commands which are fun/crappy/useful/dangerous, don’t forget to share with us.

Now-a-days education is an Investment and the cost of education is increased immensely in these days. Student loans can be granted through various lenders with a governmental guarantee, or can be granted from private lenders with no guarantee. There are many factors to consider before applying for a student loan. Generally you are given six months before the repayment will begin as the loans are looking to see that you have a sound job and that you are truly done with school. There are several Federal Loans eligible for Student Loan Consolidation. So in most cases the federal student loan is more helpful to the students in interest rates and repayment only. Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans are dependent/Independent of student and this loan is based on financial need and it has fixed interest rates.
