If you’re a purist, and you’ve purposefully not watched the third season’s first episode (even though it premiered on NBC.com a week ago), and with fanatical obedience, you will sit your 30 Rock-lovin’ butt in front of the TV at 9:30 on the dot (say no to the DVR!), then will you spy Liz Lemon, big Jack and the whole GTS gang in all of its funniest-show-on-TV-right-now glory. The season promises brilliant guest appearances from Jennifer Aniston (super-Jack-obsessed), Salma Hayek (recipient of Jack-lovin’), Oprah Winfrey (recipient of TMI about Liz) and Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and Blake Lively who remind Liz that — what the?! — she was once a Mean Girl!

Jeangreymeester_l I'm a huge fan of the X-Men movie franchise -- well, at least the first two Bryan Singer-directed flicks -- but not so much of The CW's icky Gossip Girl (I know, blasphemy alert). And that's why I'm more than a little perturbed by the news that Josh Schwartz (exec producer of GG, as well as The O.C. and Chuck) will be writing (and possibly directing) the fourth installment of the film franchise, X-Men: First Class, with plans to "inject a next-gen sensibility into the superhero series," according to Variety.

Gossip Girl and The OC creator Josh Schwartz is to write a new instalment of the X-Men series that will concentrate on the younger members of the team. The last film grossed just under $500 million worldwide (despite being utterly mediocre) after Bryan Singer handed over the reins to Brett Ratner. The new flick is to be called X-Men: First Class and Fox are toying with the idea of using the gang of tweens from the last film as the core cast; otherwise it'll be a whole new bunch of angst ridden, mutant superheroes dealing with bad guys and hair in strange places. Schwartz has apparently also been offered the chance to direct to film but turned it down - JJ Abrams he is not. No word on returning cast or any other possible helmer yet.

Hugh Pickens writes "If we humans have such big brains, how can we get conned? Neuroeconomist Paul J. Zak has an interesting post on Psychology Today in which he recounts how he was the victim of a classic con called 'The Pigeon Drop' when he was a teenager and explains how con men take advantage of the Human Oxytocin Mediated Attachment System, called THOMAS, a powerful brain circuit that releases the neurochemical oxytocin when we are trusted and induces a desire to reciprocate the trust we have been shown. 'The key to a con is not that you trust the con man, but that he shows he trusts you. Con men ply their trade by appearing fragile or needing help, by seeming vulnerable,' writes Zak. 'Because of THOMAS, the human brain makes us feel good when we help others — this is the basis for attachment to family and friends and cooperation w
