Amazon MP3 and Android, Sitting In a Tree...

"Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced that the Amazon MP3 music store will be pre-loaded on the T-Mobile G1, the world's first Android(TM)-powered mobile phone in partnership with Google. T-Mobile G1 users can search, download, buy and play music from Amazon MP3, which offers over 6 million DRM-free MP3 songs from all four major music labels and thousands of independent labels that can be played on virtually any hardware device and managed with any music software. "Amazon wants to make it easy for customers to discover, buy, and play their music wherever they happen to be--whether sitting at their computer or on the go," said Bill Carr, Amazon.com Vice President for Digital Music and Video. "We look forward to the release of the T-Mobile G1, which will put Amazon MP3's vast selection of low-priced DRM-free music at the fingerti

MySpace and Amazon challenge iTunes in music downloads

Roughly three out of four music downloads are from iTunes.com, but Apple’s hugely successful music site now faces some stiff competition. The leading social network, MySpace Inc., has teamed with the No. 1 online retailer to create MySpace Music, allowing MySpace users to download music through Amazon.com Inc.’s music store.

MySpace To Launch Online Music Service

News Corp’s MySpace launches a new online music service on Thursday, aiming to loosen Apple’s grip on the US music industry and challenge all other online rivals. The service, MySpace Music, also aims to come to the aid of a music industry reeling from the continued slide in CD sales. MySpace Music is viewed by the music industry as an alternative to prior partnerships, most notably, its pact with Apple’s Steve Jobs. Label chiefs have long grumbled that Apple’s iTunes service is primarily designed to funnel profits back to Apple’s iPod and iPhone devices at the expense of the music industry. But so far, no contenders have managed to dent iTunes.

MySpace Music Lets You Download Music

MySpace Music is a great way to download music on the Net. It used to be that MySpace Music only let you add your favorite songs to your MySpace profile. Now you can buy your favorite songs and even download them. Take your favorite songs with you everywhere you go after you buy them from MySpace Music.

Immediate Music launches new music libraries targeted at video game industry plus custom scoring services

Immediate Music, Hollywood’s preeminent supplier of original music for high profile, major studio feature film trailers, is making its music available—for the first time ever—to the advertising and video game industries. Concurrently, the company, which recently provided its signature music for NBC's 2008 Beijing Olympics, has announced the launch of two new music libraries, “Immediate Music Premium” and “Immediate Music Library.” Also, Immediate Music will now be offering its award-winning, high quality level, original custom scoring services to those industries. Immediate Music co- founders/composers/producers Yoav Goren and Jeffrey Fayman made the announcements.

CEO: MySpace Might Develop Digital Music Player

San Francisco - MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe did not rule out the possibility that the company, which recently launched a digital music joint venture with the major record labels, may at some point enter the market with its own branded digital music player, Reuters reported. "It's possible," DeWolfe said at the Web 2.0 summit this week. "If anything, we'll [MySpace Music] be accretive to iPod sales... Unless we develop a device," DeWolfe later added. In related news, a source told CNET News.com that MTV chief of digital music Courtney Holt has accepted the position as head of MySpace Music, although a contract has not yet been signed.

MySpace Music: Getting Digital Music On Track

I’ve spent the last few hours Thursday morning using the new MySpace Music product - searching for music, adding it to playlists and my profile, and listening. It’s far from perfect (more on that below). But MySpace has done something incredible at a big picture level: they’ve created both a compelling music experience for users as well as a realistic, long term business model for labels and artists in a world where recorded music moves towards free.

MySpace Digs its Heels into Music Downloading

While it’s known for strengths in the online social networking world, MySpace appears to be switching its focus over to the digital music arena in a big way. The company launched MySpace Music yesterday, which will feature music from all four major record labels, as well as all titles from The Orchard’s independent catalogue. While those who wish to download a DRM-free song will be pointed to the Amazon.com site, tunes can be streamed for free on MySpace. On the other side of the coin, artists and other companies will be given some interesting monetization opportunities that have otherwise been lacking in the digital download space.

Amazon Confirms Music Store For The Google Android G1

imageAs rumors indicated yesterday, Amazon.com (NSDQ: AMZN) confirmed today that it will provide an Amazon MP3 music store for the T-Mobile G1, which is just a half an hour away from being unveiled at a press conference in New York. The store will allow T-Mobile G1 users to search, download, buy and play music from a catalog of 6 million DRM-free MP3 songs from all four major music labels and thousands of independent labels. But wait, don’t get too excited because as you may suspect, the tracks will have to be downloaded over a Wi-Fi connection, however, users can still browse, listen to samples and buy on the T-Mobile network. Still, this is an improvement over even Nokia’s (NYSE: NOK) highly anticipated Comes With Music service, which is expected to be a side-loading only affair.

MySpace Digital Music Service Is DRM-Free

Anti-Globalism sends word that MySpace flipped the switch on its online, ad-supported, DRM-free music service that will "... give its roughly 120 million users free access to hundreds of thousands of songs from the world's largest recording labels. Unlike much of the material at Apple's iTunes store, the music sold through MySpace's new service won't contain the protections that limit how many times a track can be copied. MySpace is hoping to set itself apart from iTunes even further by allowing its users to create an unlimited number of playlists containing up to 100 songs apiece, a sharing concept similar to music services already offered by Imeem and Last.fm."

Amazon to sell electronics on Canadian site

Amazon.com Inc. said it will add a consumer electronics category to its Canadian website - Amazon.ca - starting today even as forecasters warn of declining consumer spending during the holiday season. The Seattle-based company is hoping to encourage Canadian customers to shop for digital cameras and computer accessories, such as speakers and MP3 music players, in addition to books and CDs in the run-up to Christmas. "It's our first new category that we've launched in five years," said Julie Todaro, director of Amazon.ca. Video game hardware and software was the last new product line added to Amazon's Canadian site. Amazon's U.S. website also sells downloadable music and movies as well as digital print books and audio books, however the company hasn't said when those services will be available to Canadians.
