Next Grand Theft Auto Could be Subscription Based

GTA LogoAt the same BMO Capital Markets' conference last week in New York where he gave an update on upcoming GTAIV DLC and Chinatown Wars, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered a glimpse further down the road. In his "Negative Approach" blog for cnet, Dave Rosenberg related these remarks from Zelnick:

Strauss Zelnick, chairman of Take-Two, has said that the publisher is still actively seeking business partnerships following Electronic Arts' decision to call off its proposed takeover of the company.

Subscription-based GTA and BioShock planned?

CVG.com writes: "Take-Two chief Strauss Zelnick says that the company's looking to exploit a subscription-based pricing model for its AAA titles.

Regarding the exclusive content for the 360 version of GTA4, Zelnick said, "It's close to being complete," but also noted, "Downloadable content is a big undertaking. It is important to be really special." These comments indicate the company is possibly having a greater difficulty developing the expansion than they initially anticipated but are still serving their commitment to quality above all else.
