DENESH RAMDIN’S XI won yesterday’s Twenty20 trial match over a Daren Ganga XI on a faster run rate after rain brought a premature end to the match at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva. Left arm pacer Rakesh Maharaj continued his impressive form at the trial matches taking four for 31 to put the Ganga XI on the back foot. Off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth took four for nine to dismiss the Ganga XI for 119 with skipper Ganga leading his team with a knock of 26.

Robocon is a prestigious event in which engineering students compete to design the best robot for a specific challenge. Initiated by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union in 2002, the annual competition is designed to foster strategic thinking, leadership and team-building skills. The Xilinx sponsored team, from Xi'an Jiao Tung University, first won the right to represent China earlier this year at a national competition held in Beijing. The team advanced to the finals where they defeated 16 other teams from across the Middle East and Asia to win the Robocon 2008 competition.
