A Quick Look at OpenOffice.org Writer 3.0 Beta 2

"...citation management is a deal-maker or breaker for me. How does Writer 3 stack up there? Unfortunately, citation management in Writer 3 remains deficient for at least three reasons. First, the database fields in the bibliographic database are incomplete and non-standard in relation to how things are done in academia today. Certainly one could spend much time customizing the database fields, but the cost-benefit calculus doesn’t make sense to me. It appears that OO.org folks just whipped up something they thought looks reasonable."

HP DVD-1040e external DVD writer

Here is a small excerpt of the main negative points of this DVD writer: “The specification of the HP DVD-1040e tells us that the drive supports DVD+/-R writing with up to 20x speed, but the truth shows us that 20x speed couldn’t be reached. The Drive also shows questionable writing quality on some CD-R / CD-RW media”.

Simon Gray: rakish and versatile playwright

Simon Gray was a prolific and versatile author whose diligence and professionalism gave the lie to an often shambolic appearance and manner. He made an early start as a writer of prose fiction, and for a time had an undistinguished academic career, but he found his true vocation as a writer of plays. He wrote for the stage, for television, for radio and for film. His subjects ranged from historical dramas and allegories to shrewdly satirical studies of modern life and mores. He was at home with all of them.

FILM: Boldly going one toke (or more) over the line

If you were trying to select the appropriate personnel to refurbish that slightly disreputable, perpetually half-baked genre, the Hollywood stoner comedy, you might very well ask Judd Apatow, the current king of schlubby, non-alpha-male humor, to serve as producer. And you could easily imagine Seth Rogen, leading man of "Knocked Up," co-writer of "Superbad" and someone whose rsum suggests at least a passing familiarity with the munchies, as co-writer and star.

DNS Attack Writer a Victim of His Own Creation

BobB writes "HD Moore has been owned. Moore, the creator of the popular Metasploit hacking toolkit, has become the victim of a computer attack. It happened on Tuesday morning, when Moore's company, BreakingPoint, had some of its Internet traffic redirected to a fake Google page that was being run by a scammer. According to Moore, the hacker was able to do this by launching what's known as a cache poisoning attack on a DNS server on AT&T's network that was serving the Austin, Texas, area. One of BreakingPoint's servers was forwarding DNS (Domain Name System) traffic to the AT&T server, so when it was compromised, so was HD Moore's company."
