Partners choosing WoW over each other is nothing new. Since early 2005, a Yahoo! Group has existed offering support for those who find themselves second to a dancing Night Elf avatar. Named World of Warcraft Widows, the group is nearly 4,000 strong, and one of the larger public groups on Yahoo.

Despite his rather stoic delivery during an Activision Blizzard conference call earlier today, Blizzard's Mike Morhaime undoubtedly took some thrill reciting the following statistics relating to players trying to leave World of Warcraft for the competition: Of the players who cited Funcom's Age of Conan as their reason for leaving WoW, a whopping 68% returned to Azeroth; of the players who cited Warhammer: Age of Reckoning as the impetus behind their departure, a less overwhelming (but similarly impressive) 46% of players ultimately leapt right back into Blizzard's no-doubt strategically receptive embrace.

World of Warcraft players certainly don't mind that 7-Eleven has been dabbling in the field of selling videogames. Thanks to the apparent disregard for street dates, WoW players were able to secure early copies (albeit not early access) of Wrath of the Lich King. The retail chain has announced that its recent sales of games like WoW, Halo, and Madden isn't a temporary holiday cash-in -- they're planning on permanently adding videogames to their inventory (via Joystiq).

"In what is perhaps the most shining example of obsession and geekiness I have ever seen, a fella by the name of Bradster has 36 World of WarCraft accounts that he plays on 11 computers simultaneously. He mainly seems to be doing it because he doesn't like to rely on so many other people to get a raid going, which includes attacking the Alliance capital cities, and on that front I can totally see where he's coming from.
