Nicholas Carlson writes "These employers (Amazon, Google, Yahoo, etc), and the others hiring for tech's 10 worst entry-level jobs will look good on a resume someday, but for now the only good these jobs promise the world is the pleasant feeling you and I can share knowing we're not the ones stuck in them." The story is really obnoxiously laid out, requiring many many clicks to read very little actual content. Perhaps Valleywag could afford to hire another of tech's worst jobs: the web designer.

London, MAy 19: He was dubbed as the "world's worst poet", but now Scottish Bard William McGonagall has had the last laugh, for his odes have raked in more money than the very famous Harry Potter books at an auction.

nicholas.m.carlson writes help you feel better about your hovel. Vallywag recently compiled a list of the top ten places to work, but the resulting submissions and exploration also provided them with an interesting look at some of the worst places to work. "What makes them so bad? Some offend with exposed fluorescent lights, gray cubicles and a dystopian corporate sheen. But others, with their pseudo-hip graffiti, kindergarten toys and plastic decorations -- all in a desperate attempt to seem "Internet-y" -- come off even worse."

And we think we have it tough. The worst thing that's ever happened here at Tech Digest HQ is the occasional aggressive email from PR people pointing out the press release said eight megabits not megabytes, plus the odd Viagra spam comment to delete once in a while. We've never been banged up for saying iPhone's better than the N95.

Ian Lamont writes "Anti-spam service Knujon has released reports highlighting how certain registrars in the US and abroad have consistently failed to live up to certain WHOIS-related obligations under ICANN's Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) — specifically, the requirement that people or company registering domains provide valid contact information. Now the firm is requesting that ICANN shut down the worst alleged offender, Xinnet Bei Gong Da Software. According to Knujon, none of the WHOIS records in a sample of 11,000 alleged spam sites registered through Xinnet and reported by Knujon to ICANN's Whois Data Problem Report System were corrected in a six-month period ending in May 2008 — and the Chinese registrar continues to register about 100 spam sites per day.

The iPhone's built-in camera has gotten a lot of flack for being less-than-perfect, but for some of us who have grown used to the worst of the worst, the iPhone's camera is like a breath of fresh air. Sure, it could use a zoom lens, significantly better low-light capabilities, and mo' megapixels, but it does a pretty decent job for most users. It turns out that we're not the only ones who think so, as recent Flickr data shows that the iPhone has sprung to the number one spot among cameraphones used on the site.

When I was hunting down an extra battery for my Canon Vixia HF10 last month, a sponsored link caught my eye. Some place called “The Camera Professionals” was advertising the camcorder for $599, or $300 less than the cheapest price I had seen at the time. (Since then, the store has dropped the price to $449).Some quick research confirmed my initial response. Sites like The Complaints Board were filled with horror stories. People either never received their orders, received something different from what they had ordered, or were aggressively upsold before their order was completed.

Bad videogame covers are an inescapable blight. They've been with us since we first crawled, naked and blinking, from the primordial seas, and they'll be with us when we finally take to the stars. We can't fight them, but we can at least laugh at them. It's a pastime that's been making my life more bearable for years now, at least.
