I’m beginning to grow rather fond of the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority, which pops into the tech news now and then (see “U.K. ad watchdog to Apple: Not so fast“). Worn down as we are by the unrelenting waves of hype, we may wearily shrug off the all the little exaggerations and weasel words of the marketers. But the ASA stands as a stickler, and it’s satisfying to see it stick it to a deserving deceiver. In the crosshairs today is Electronic Arts for a commercial for “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09″ that made prominent use of the Wii logo and featured Tiger himself swinging a Wii controller. Problem was, as one sharp-eyed complainant noted, that all the game footage shown in the ad was from the graphically richer XBox 360 version.
