Geode uses a technology from Skyhook called Loki, which maps WiFi signals (so you'll need a WiFi enabled computer) in your area to determine your location (with a claimed accuracy of 10 to 20 meters). Geolocation Services are planned for the upcoming release of Firefox 3.1, so the release of Geode should help users get accustomed to the possibilites involved.
