The very first step in moving markup into modern form is to make it well-formed. Well-formedness is the basis of the huge and incredibly powerful XML tool chain. Well-formedness guarantees a single unique tree structure for the document that can be operated on by the DOM, thus making it the basis of reliable, cross-browser JavaScript. The very first thing you need to do is make your pages well-formed.

If you're a Flickr user as well as a Mac user, there are already plenty of ways to interact with the site, ranging from good old Safari to the Flickr Uploader application. If you're looking for a standalone application that does more than just upload pictures, there are a few options for that as well. Mac OS X Flickr clients like Photonic and 1001 have been around for a while, but Flickr users are getting another client option as well. Developer Eternal Storms recently announced the public beta of flickery, its new Flickr client for Mac OS X.

I've already explained why I believe Google's AppEngine could be a big deal if implemented well (still an open question). One of the open questions was price, though you could (and we did!) take a guess based on the original announcement. Well, now Google has released the pricing and it's pretty much what we expected: the platform is totally free for anyone who isn't driving that much usage, but as you ramp beyond a certain level, fees kick in. Those fees seem pretty similar to Amazon's fees (some minor differences, but not that many will notice). Assuming that the rest of the system works well, the free bottom end will hopefully lead to some interesting innovations. For developers, the only cost of building and testing a web app is their time.

Ian Lamont writes "Palm's fourth quarter results came out a few days ago, and they were not pretty: Palm reported losses of 40 cents per share, for a quarterly loss of $43.4 million. It's the fourth straight quarter of losses, and it's clear that the company is not faring well in the rapidly evolving smartphone market. The Treo line is lagging after seven years, and while the Centro has done well, it's not well enough to compete with the likes of the iPhone 3G and RIM's surging BlackBerry line. New competition is on the horizon, with developers and manufacturers working on the Google Android platform and the recent news that Symbian is being open-sourced. What happened to Palm? What can the company do to effectively compete in the mobile market, and turn its fortunes around?"

While judge Alex Kozinski is getting a ton of press for accidentally sharing pornographic images from his webserver, Justin Levine notes that the report concerning what was on the server also found music MP3s from musicians like Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Weird Al Yankovic. Levine wonders if the RIAA will now sue this federal judge as well. In fact, things could get tricky in that some research suggests not only was Kozinski storing MP3s, he may have actively been sharing some of those MP3s as well. That same link mentions that in one of many copyright infringement lawsuits concerning the company Perfect 10, Kozinski wrote a dissenting opinion suggesting that facilitating copyright infringement should be seen as infringement as well:

Since about 2006, and after that unpleasant period of Dreamcast failure, Sega's success has been a mixed bag. Profits go up, profits go down; its 2008 fiscal year say $501 million in losses, $56.3 million for its games division. Some titles do well, other times the company seems to completely lack anything resembling a killer app. Don Reisinger of CNet says drastic times call for drastic measures:
