Viking: Battle For Asgard is the latest game from Creative Assembly (creators of the award-winning Total War series), that takes place amongst the Norse gods. From the opening bars of Viking: Battle for Asgard we are on a musical journey that owes a lot to Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Melodic ideas waft through the large orchestral texture with choral backgrounds that reflect a former mythological age. Flute ideas create a sense of ancient Northern Europe and appear to hint at folk scenes. But for the most part there is a lot of menace in this music that helps to increase tension in the gaming experience. There are some interesting percussion-laced macabre moments that are quite chilling. Action sequences, of which there are plenty, are what makes this score an exciting listening experience.

The 4000-km-long Valles Marineris is the Red Planet's Grand Canyon. Narrow outcrops of opal are found in and around the canyon. The minerals may be quite extensive – covering regions spanning 1000 km – but are only seen where erosion has cleared away overlying dust and rocks (Image: Viking Project/NASA)
