Legacy Interactive announced the launch of their first game on Nintendo DS, Zoo Vet: Endangered Animals, a breakthrough title for animal lovers and aspiring vets that will provide both children and adults with compelling educational experiences that emphasize learning through activity. In this new simulation game set in an urban zoo, players will quickly find out that being a zoo vet is an adventurous and exciting job as they do things like watch a baby flamingo take her first steps, amputate an orangutan¹s finger and they even get to stick their heads in a hippo¹s mouth! A portion of the game's proceeds will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation that provided fascinating conservation information used in the game.

Honey is still on the mend and is doing really well. She's had the staples out of her leg, the vet is happy with how it feels and she seems to be able to walk OK although she isn't allowed to do much of that. She finishes her "cage rest" next week so I'll get my broody cage back. She will then be allowed out but confined to one (large) room to minimise jumping etc. After a week I will give her the run of my part of the house then a couple of weeks later she will get to see the outside world again.

Before Stanley Kubrick laid bare the dehumanizing horrors of basic training in the Vietnam-era in "Full Metal Jacket," David Rabe (himself a 'Nam vet) got there with 1976's "Streamers," one of a trilogy of plays he penned about the war and its effects on the home front. Unfortunately, Rabe's vision of male bonding amid racial and sexual tension and competition hasn't held up well. As in "Hurlyburly," his portrait of drugged-out Hollywood wannabes in the go-go 1980s, Rabe never uses nuance for his characters where a broad stroke can suffice.

theodp writes "Confirming paranoid high-schoolers' fears, a new Kaplan survey reveals that 10% of admissions officers from prestigious schools said they had peeked at sites like Facebook and MySpace to evaluate college-bound seniors. Of those using the profiles, 38% said it had a 'negative impact' on the applicant. 'Today's application is not just what you send ... but whatever they can Google about you,' said Kaplan's Jeff Olson. At Notre Dame, assistant provost for enrollment Dan Saracino said he and his staff sometimes come across candidates portraying themselves in a less-than-flattering light. 'It's typically inappropriate photos — like holding up a can of beer at a party,' Saracino said. On the other hand, using the Internet to vet someone's character seems overly intrusive to Northwestern's Christopher Watson.
