Tales has been helping the Xbox 360 pick up their numbers in Japan by pleasing the hearts of all those who have stumbled onto its colourful journey into a world of magic, friendship and exploration. It's time us Canucks have a look at this Japanese sensation to see if Tales of Vesperia can warm bring the same warm and fuzzy feeling to our hearts as well.

Review: Tales of Vesperia

While in the recent past Square Enix has felt the need to refit and reshape its own major RPG franchise, Namco’s equivalent standard-bearer exists in much the same form today as it did when it first appeared. Complaints about the regurgitation of gameplay and structure across a series of this nature are only really valid if they have a negative effect on the experience, and that’s certainly not the case here. After all, an established rule-set can allow designers to concentrate on the fundamentally important aspects of the genre: plotting, writing, world building and characterisation.

News: New Features For Western Tales

Launched earler this year in Japan to much hoo-rah, Namco are burrowing away on Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World in preparation for its North American release. After ousting the 360's AAA Tales of Vesperia in the series' homeland, the Japanese giant is giving western Symphonia loyalists a special treat, by using localisation time to add all new features.

Xbox 360 Outsells PlayStation 3 in Japan. Again.

Video game sales data compiled by Media Create Sales shows that for a second week in a row the Xbox 360 managed to sell more units than the PlayStation 3 in Japan. This strong momentum of Microsoft's system in the land of the rising sun is due in part to Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery, with the recent price cut also contributing to these exceptional sales.
