Rousset, France – Atmel has announced a Linux v2.6.27 release for its ARM9-based AT91SAM9 family, which includes the 400 MHz AT91SAM9G20. The Linux distribution is available from Atmel's AT91SAM Linux portal at www.linux4sam.org. It includes the complete Linux v2.6.27 kernel, the Linux patch for the AT91SAM9G20-EK, device drivers, pre-built demonstrations and the Angstrom/OpenEmbedded building environment.

A Linux distribution based on v2.6.27 is available from Atmel’s AT91SAM portal at www.linux4sam.org. It includes the complete Linux v2.6.27 kernel, the Linux patch for the AT91SAM9G20-EK, device drivers, pre-built demonstrations, and the Angström/OpenEmbedded building environment. Support is available through TimeSys, including an embedded Linux ReadyKit for the entire AT91SAM9 series, including the AT91SAM9G20. The ReadyKit comprises a pre-built Linux kernel, device drivers, a GNU-based cross toolchain, a glibc-based root filesystem complete with selected development libraries, 14 days of technical support, and access to support documentation.

PS3 V2.50 firmware gets Bluetooth support

Along with a new PSP firmware announcement, Sony have given details of the up-coming V2.50 of the PlayStation 3 firmware. Amongst the features included is support for the new Bluetooth Headset and improved background downloading.

Last.fm for iPhone v2.0 streamlines interface, more

Last.fm Ltd. has updated Last.fm for iPhone to v2.0, streamlining the interface, adding tagging, personal tag radio, common artists (when viewing a profile) and a calendar-based events view. The new update also adds support for the iPhone 2.1 software update. The software allows users to design personal radio stations based on artists or genres, and offers artists bios, concert information, favorite track sharing and smart recommendations, based on user listening.

Apple release iPhone and iPod Touch firmware v2.2

Today Apple launched the iPhone firmware v2.2, for both the iPhone and iPhone 3G as well as the iPod Touch. The new firmware includes a new podcast feature in the on-device iTunes Store, allowing users to download podcasts over WiFi or cellular networks.

Bluetooth Development Kit Enables Low-Power Remote-Control Apps

Extending battery life, the BlueCore TouchLITE Bluetooth remote control development kit for automotive use enables remote control for navigation systems, in-car multimedia devices, and MP3 players. The kit supports Bluetooth v2.1, allowing two single batteries to last more than 500 days in a typical usage scenario. Bluetooth v2.1 packs features such as sniff-subrating, which reduces power consumption and latency. In sniff mode, or stand-by, the TouchLITE remote control consumes 0.1 mA. As well as BlueCore silicon, the development kit comes complete with a hardware example design, Bluetooth software stack, Bluetooth profile suite, and example application software. Sony strengthens firmware portfolio - PSP hits v5.00, PS3 now goes up to v2.50
