.org first top level domain to adopt DNS security protocol

ICANN has unanimously approved a request by the Public Interest Registry (which handles .org domains) to become the first generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) to switch to the DNS security protocol DNSSEC. As part of the agreement, PIR will trailblaze DNSSEC, while simultaneously developing an education and adoption plan that can later be disseminated across the Internet's infrastructure, PIR's use of DNSSEC is a significant step forward, but a mixture of contentious political and technological issues have slowed the worldwide development and deployment process.

The Council of State unanimously refused a demand by a historical association to open Hagia Sofia to worship for Muslims, the Anatolia news agency reported yesterday.

Supreme Court strengthens patent exhaustion doctrine

The United States Supreme Court has unanimously held in Quanta Computer, Inc. v. LG Electronics, Inc. that the patent law cannot be used to control the subsequent use or disposition of a product "that substantially embodies a patent" once the product has been sold with authority of the patent owner. "The authorized sale of an article that substantially embodies a patent exhausts the patent holder's rights and prevents the patent holder from invoking the patent law to control post-sale use of the article." Patent exhaustion applies whether the patents are directed to products or methods. "Our precedents do not differentiate transactions involving embodiments of patented methods or processes from those involving patented apparatuses or materials.

I S Bindra, a veteran cricket administrator, was on Sunday unanimously re-elected president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at the Annual General Meeting of the cricket body held in Mohali.

Bindra remains Punjab Cricket Association president

IS Bindra, the principal advisor to the chief executive of the ICC, has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at its Annual General Meeting held in Mohali. Bindra has been president since 1978 and the new term ensures he will remain in the post till 2012.

Lords reject NASA hacker's appeal against extradition

NASA hacker Gary McKinnon has lost his appeal against extradition to the US. Five Law Lords have unanimously rejected his argument that plea bargaining by US prosecutors undermined his human rights.

Ashraf appointed ACC president

Nasim Ashraf, the Pakistan board chairman, has been appointed president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Ashraf, who was elected unanimously for a two-year term, succeeds Arjuna Ranatunga, the former Sri Lankan captain. P Krisnasamh from Malaysia has been appointed vice-president.

.ORG becomes the first generic Top Level Domain to start DNSSEC implementation

A request by .ORG, The Public Interest Registry to bolster Internet security via the implementation of Domain Name Security Extensions (DNSSEC) was unanimously approved by the board of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) at the recent Paris meeting. As the first generic Top Level Domain authorized to implement DNSSEC, .ORG also is preparing an education and adoption plan within the Internet infrastructure community.

Leahy Cyber Crime Measure Passes Senate

LONDON: Next month's Champions Trophy in Pakistan has been postponed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Sunday. "The ICC board on Sunday agreed unanimously to postpone the ICC Champions Trophy...until October 2009," the world governing body said in a statement. ( Watch )

ICANN approves the introduction of internationalized domain names

On Thursday 25 June the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the nonprofit corporation that coordinates the global Internet system of unique identifiers, at the closing of its 32 International public meeting in Paris, unanimously approved the introduction of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) in the top level of Internet addresses.

Techie had hacked PCs

Mumbai, Aug. 19: Abdul Qureshi, alias Taukeer, an ex-Wipro DSA employee, who has been on the run since 2001, is suspected to have sent all four emails before and after the blasts at several places in the country recently. Interestingly, when ATS officers contacted the former employers of Taukeer, they unanimously said that he was better than any B.Tech or M.Tech. The police found that Taukeer had resigned from his last job for "religious reasons".
