The Death of UMD, and a PSP Hard Drive?

Both comments were spurred by the thriving PlayStation Network, which just recently added downloadable movies and television shows. A hard drive seems like a logical step moving forward, but one has to wonder what that'd do to the PSP's size, weight and most importantly, battery usage. Sony made the PSP slimmer, lighter and more power efficient last year, so this could wind up reversing all that.

Sony Computer Entertainment America recently announced the new Madden NFL 09 themed PSP Pack. Sony launches blue PSP Madden bundle...

Sony today gave the PSP a seasonal update with the introduction of the Madden NFL 09 PSP Entertainment Pack. The special-run version of the handheld console gives the PSP a metallic blue tint and ships the system with enough to get the user started on the game: in addition to the new Madden sequel, the Sony bundle comes with a 1GB Memory Stick to save games and an UMD video disc of the NFL's In One Play. A coupon also comes in the box good for a download of the game Beats that can be sideloaded to the PSP from a host PC.

Sony Fumbles with Madden PSP Bundle

Sony doesn't get it. Just as a leopard can't change its spots and the new metallic blue version of Sony's PSP coming out on August 21 for the 20th anniversary of Madden NFL won't change much that's wrong with the PSP either. In conjunction with the PSP launch Sony and EA have also announced they will team to produce a $200 Madden NFL 09 PSP Entertainment Pack. The pack includes includes a copy of Madden 09, a UMD video called NFL: In Just One Play, a voucher to download "Beats" from the PlayStation Store and a 1 GB memory stick.
