A glimpse of the new Palm Treo Pro was uploaded -- and quickly removed from -- Palm's Web site. Bloggers were on the scoop, and posted pictures and specs of the Palm Treo Pro long after Palm removed the Treo Pro info from its Web site. Palm's new Treo Pro will reportedly use Windows Mobile OS, instead of Palm's rumored next-gen Palm OS.

The Palm Treo Pro has been getting a lot of reviews lately. This time MobileTechReview has offered up their review of the latest Palm Treo device to hit the market. This is a very complete review of the Treo Pro pointing out its good features and bad. We think they took it a little easy on Palm for the lame keyboard on the Treo Pro. For us, the keyboard is a deal breaker.

The Treo Pro is a culmination of everything that Palm has learned about making a handheld to date, and the result is a great-looking device with a well crafted spec sheet. Palm makes it no secret that their latest Windows Mobile device is targeted at professionals: it's the Treo Pro, not the Treo Consumer. That said, expectation for this device are quite high, but we have some hang ups. Read on for a comprehensive look at the Palm Treo Pro!

So I finally got my Treo Pro! I think I got it yesterday but haven't had time to open the box until today. I know that Palm's new packaging has been mentioned, but after actually seeing the packaging in person, it was pretty neat. It's sort of weird seeing the new packaging after all the other Treo boxes and the Centro box were all pretty much identical. The Treo Pro's box is smaller and is sturdier also.

After the release of the CDMA 800w, we expected Palm to unveil a GSM version soon after. Well, that day has come, but instead of a new model number like Treo 850, the company has decided to go with the name Treo Pro instead. This handheld is the first HSDPA-enabled Treo to come with Wi-Fi built in, finally breaking the tradition of Palm leaving out one or two key connectivity options in its new products. This brings it in line with other Windows Mobile (WM) products out on the market which are usually armed to the teeth with features.

Wow, check out the Treo Pro, previously thought to be the Treo 850. It's safe to say Palm is plunging ahead with the Centro's industrial design, but the stark (glossy?) black and white color scheme with the phone/end orbs make it slick, rather than kiddie cool. Unfortunately, the Palm OS (new or othewise) for is nowhere in sight, just Windows Mobile. Here's a shot of the back, too:

Yesterday's leaked Treo Pro was definitely not a rendering. We've now got a whole gallery of it in the flesh, confirming its good looks, and maybe more importantly, its size. While a little taller and wider than the Centro, it's mercifully thinner than its pocket-bulging predecessor. The keyboard spacing looks like it's slightly more generous too, so it might be easier to type on, but we'll see. [Treo.net via WM Experts]

Some cellphone upgrades are all addition, some are addition by subtraction. Palm's Treo 800w from Sprint is a little of both compared to the 700w/wx, which it replaces. It also gives Sprint a more state-of-the-art Treo and Sprint subscribers a reasonable alternative to the Samsung Instinct. The additions are Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1, a higher-resolution touchscreen, a 2.0 MP camera, startling A-GPS capabilities, threaded messaging and WiFi. What it subtracts is the 700w's annoying stub antenna, a couple of silly millimeters on each side and 1.4 ounces to give it a slimmer, trimmer shape and feel, a headphone jack, and more than an hour of talk time compared to both its predecessor and its own specs. The question is, do these plusses and minuses add up?
