XML Standard for E-Discovery

On Dec 3, 2007, the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) group announced its XML standard for e-discovery of electronically stored information. This facilitates the transfer of electronic information (e.g., emails, files, databases) between e-discovery stages, software, and organizations. Without the XML standard, emails, files, and other electronic information are transferred in their native format (e.g., .DOC, .XLS, .MSG) or converted to a standard format such as PDF. With the XML standard all electronic information can be transferred more easily and accurately, providing improved e-discovery.

US transfers WWII records to Holocaust museums

The US Justice Department has transferred more than 50,000 pages of documents detailing World War II-era plots to kill Jews to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. The records are transcripts from more than 40 cases brought against Nazi war criminals who covered up their past when they entered the US. The Justice Department is still investigating about a dozen cases of alleged Nazis living in the United States. The transfer of documents represents another step in opening long-restricted archives more than 60 years after the end of the war. In January, Germany opened to the public 70 million documents from its Holocaust archive.
