Federal Trade Commission To Scrutinize DRM

Ars Technica reports that the FTC is getting ready to take a hard look at gaming DRM, setting up a town hall meeting to be held on March 25th. They're currently recruiting panelists, and they say the meeting will, in part, "address the need to improve disclosures to consumers about DRM limitations." The controversy over DRM came to a head in 2008 with the release of Spore and the multiple subsequent class-action lawsuits focusing on the SecuROM software that came with the game. Ars Technica says the town hall meeting will also look at "legal issues surrounding DRM" and "the potential need for government involvement to protect consumers."

LHC admits petition against TV channel

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Acting Chief Justice Mian Najamuz Zaman on Thursday admitted for regular hearing a petition seeking registration of a case against the owners and staff of the Geo TV channel for running a story about Ajmal Kasab. Sardar Hur Bukhari, a Pakistan People’s Party leader, had filed the petition. The petitioner submitted that the Muslim Town police had refused to register a case against the channel owners and staff for claiming in the story that Ajmal Kasab was a resident of Faridkot. He said that the report damaged the country’s image at international level and also gave an opportunity to the Indian channels to propagate against Pakistan.
