In addition to the Touch HD, HTC Corporation today also confirmed and introduced the HTC Touch 3G and HTC Touch Viva. Continuing HTC's touch-phone tradition, the Touch 3G and Touch Viva utilize TouchFLO, HTC's finger-touch optimized navigation experience enabling quick, one-touch access to the people, messages and information people want. The HTC Touch 3G and Touch Viva embody HTC's commitment to build a family of touch phones that are powerful and stylish but also offer something to everyone, said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corporation and added: "Whether you're a professional or a student you can now get an HTC touch phone with a beautiful touch user experience."

In pictures: iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs Touch Diamond

The iPhone phenomenon is well and truly in force since the launch of the iPhone 3G in Australia last month. With this in mind, competitors are clamouring for a piece of the pie and are set to begin launching potential 'iPhone killers' in a bid to derail the Apple machine. We’ve been fortunate to have two of the newest iPhone competitors in the office, along with the iPhone 3G. RIM’s BlackBerry Bold and the much anticipated HTC Touch Diamond are two smartphones that are set to compete with the iPhone 3G in Australia and around the globe. Check out our slideshow of these hot smartphones side by side! iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs Touch Diamond iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs Touch Diamond iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs Touch Diamond iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs Touch Diamond iPhone 3G vs BlackBerry Bold vs Touch Diamond iPhone 3G vs B

Touch-based Nokia Communicator?

It would not be surprising to see Nokia jump into the mix of touch-based phones. Heck, even RIM is coming out with a touch-based BlackBerry. Nokia dropped a little teaser today during their webcast. They hinted at a touch-based phone that looked like the E90. Will they pull the trigger on a touch-based phone? Probably.

HTC Touch HD is HTC's first real multimedia smartphone

The ultra-slim HTC Touch HD all-touch phone is the first HTC smartphone to focus heavily on multimedia features. The mid-range Touch 3G and Touch Viva were also announced.

Why the iPod touch Makes the iPhone Irrelevant

Have you had a chance to touch the new iPod touch? It's a beautiful gadget--slim, shiny, with the comfy, curvy feel in your hand like it just belongs there. When you're holding the iPod touch, it's impossible to be jealous of fellow subway denizens clutching Nintendo DSes, Sony PsPs, or for that matter, iPhone 3Gs. Because even though it's not a smartphone, the touch is a portable entertainment and communications device par excellence. It does the Web. It does email. It does IM.

HTC Goes Wild with Touch HD, iPhone 3G Might Go Bye-Bye

HTC, the Taiwanese company that constantly and quickly grew to become one of the world's most famous handset manufacturers, has yet another ace up its sleeve, after the highly-appreciated Touch Diamond and Touch Pro Pocket PCs. The newcomer from HTC is apparently called Touch HD and it seems to be the ultimate full-touch handset.

iPod touch, second-generation (2G) 8GB

Is the 2G iPod touch the "funnest iPod ever?" If your notion of "funner" is an updated iPod touch is integrated hardware volume controls, a built-in speaker (low-fidelity though it may be); a curvier case; a warmer cast to the display; more capacity for the same price; and better battery life--and, of course, all the things that make the iPod touch such a desirable portable entertainment device in the first place (and I do mean the oodles of applications and games from the App Store)--then yes, Apple's tortured use of our mother tongue is apt.--Christopher Breen

Hands On with HTC's Touch Pro and Diamond smartphones

I've had a chance to use the HTC Touch Pro and Touch Diamond. Both of these models share many features, with the biggest difference being the Touch Pro's sliding keyboard.

Give your old iPod touch a new case

Apple may have ushered in a new era for the iPod touch recently, but there are plenty of owners of the original iPod touch out there--plus, you can get a pretty good deal on a refurbished 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB original iPod touch at the Apple Store's refurbished section online.

A Turning Point for Touch Screens, Says the NYT

The New York Times has a story up on the suddenly brisk market for touch screens and the devices which can make use of them, which it says "has grown quietly for years, both in commercial applications and in consumer devices." Besides the obvious (the iPhone, and Apple's use of multi-touch generally), the article also mentions the recent inclusion of Israeli company N-Trig's version of multi-touch technology in a Dell notebook computer, and some of the other places you can expect to see touchscreens instead of display-only ones in the near future — if the price drops quickly enough.

BlackBerry cooks up a Storm

Claimed to have the world's first “clickable” touch screen, the BlackBerry Storm supports single and multi-touch gestures, but also provides haptic feedback when keys are pressed on the screen — unlike Apple’s iPhone 3G. The 3.25in display slightly depresses when pressed, similar to the feeling of pressing a key on a physical keyboard or a button on a mouse. RIM claims this dramatically enhances the touch interface and results in an intuitive typing experience. Despite being a full touch-screen device, the Storm includes familiar navigational keys including phone, menu and escape.

Global release of PuzzLoop for the iPhone announced

Hudson has announced that today it will be releasing PuzzLoop worldwide for the iPhone and iPod touch. PuzzLoop began as an arcade game in 1998 and has since seen releases for several different platforms. To play players must match up three or more balls of the same color to clear them. The balls are moving in on a rail towards the center of the screen and if they reach they center then the game is over. The new iPhone version features a new control scheme that takes advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch's unique touch screen interface. The controls require a player to simply touch the screen were they want to send a ball.

Apple iPod Touch (2nd gen)

The iPod Touch was always a canny marketing move - an iPhone without the phone, enabling Apple to sell the gorgeous touch-screen experience to those who weren't ready for a new mobile contract.

iPod touch 2G (32GB)

The second-generation iPod touch has only a few features that differentiate it from its predecessor, but it’s still a worthy upgrade from the original. Notable improvements include dedicated volume buttons, a built-in speaker, and longer battery life, but we also like the new contoured back, which makes the device feel even thinner in our hand. The new firmware (2.1) and iTunes 8 also offer some new features, though most are available to first-gen iPod touch owners, too.
