Mark Twain once wrote that a lie well told is immortal, but one of the things that has always mystified me is how even badly told lies can still gain a lot of traction. So much successful propaganda over the centuries has been badly told but still worked at achieving its creators’ goals. Witness Michael Moore’s inflammatory bit of agitprop Fahrenheit 911: it was filled with blatantly false claims and contradictions, but was still accepted without question by millions of people.

That's probably not exactly what NASA administrator Michael Griffin told Lori Garver, who is heading up Barack Obama's space transition team. But according to the Orlando Sentinel, that's the gist of it. Change you can launch? While a spokesman for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration told the paper that agency officials were getting on famously with the Obama team, numerous reports suggest a more fraught relationship. The White House has directed federal agencies to give the president-elect's representatives an all-access pass, but several sources claim Griffin has sought to control access to his subordinates and stage-manage their interviews with the transition team.

Despite tough economic times, and advertising budgets being pulled back in almost every sector I know of, companies are still recognizing the need to be different to stand out from the competition in such bleak times. Many of the prospects I’ve spoken to in the recent past have told me that they intend to get a fresh look by revamping their website, but of course, SEO wasn’t baked into that process. In fact, I’ve one lead even told me to ‘call him back in 6 months, once the design was done so we could revisit SEO for his site.

The department of telecommunications (DoT) has put off the 3G auctions by a fortnight, thanks to the poor response of foreign operators and uncertainty over the 2% administrative charge on bidders, on which the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) has to take a decision. The auction, earlier scheduled for January 16, may now take place on January 30. A DoT official told FE that the auction had been postponed on the request of prospective bidders for more time. Fe was the first to report in its October 27 edition that the auctions would be postponed as international telecom companies would find it hard to raise funds amid the financial crisis. A source told FE that the auctions could be postponed beyond January because, in all likelihood, the CCEA would constitute a sub-committee to examine the issue of 2% administrative charges on
