Premium tuna fetches $100,000 US in Tokyo auction

TOKYO - Two sushi bar owners paid more than $100,000 US for a Japanese bluefin tuna at a Tokyo fish auction Monday, about ten times the average price and the highest in nearly a decade, market officials said.

French bank Natixis to slash 85% of jobs in Tokyo

French investment bank Natixis, severely hit by the global banking crisis, is to slash jobs at its Tokyo branch from around 100 to 15, a bank spokeswoman said Saturday. But she denied that Natixis was planning to close down its Tokyo offices altogether as reported in the French economy daily La Tribune on Saturday.

US DOJ Closes Investigation of SRAM Sales Involving Mitsubishi Electric Subsidiary

TOKYO - (Business Wire) Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (President and CEO: Setsuhiro Shimomura) (TOKYO:6503) announced today that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division has notified Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics U.S.A Inc. (MEUS), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric, that DOJ has closed its grand jury investigation of possible antitrust violations regarding static random access memory (SRAM) sales in the US market. No charges have been brought to Mitsubishi Electric or MEUS regarding this matter. In October 2006, MEUS had received a subpoena from the DOJ.
