Information architecture for links

When most designers think of information architecture, if they think of it at all, they think of the hierarchy of their site. In other words, they think about the site structure, the navigation, and the location of various pages on the site in relation to the navigation. But the reality is that information architecture is about links. What links where and how it is linked. According to Google, you want to keep the most important pages close to your home page, or only 1 or 2 clicks away. This is really useful to your readers, but it's also helpful for the Googlebot. The best way to create links for information architecture includes:

What do you think is the best editor?

Last week I posted a list of the Web hosting providers you think are the best and worst. This week, I took a look at your reviews of Web editors. There aren't as many reviews of Web editors as Web hosts, I guess most of us just don't get as passionate about our editor as we do about our hosts. But it's interesting to me to see the differences between how I review Web editors and the reviews my readers give. Find out what About.com readers think are the Best Web Editors and the Worst Web Editors. If you are interested in having your review included in the tally, you should either submit a full review online, or click on the "write a review" link at the top of a review of your editor. Comments on this post are happily received, but will not be included in the tally of best and worst Web editor.

"Angie will get nominated for Changeling; I think Brad Pitt will be nominated for Ben Button...This year is the best year for blockbusters that make you think, like Iron Man and The Dark Knight."

Microsoft still interested in Yahoo search

NEW YORK (Agencies): Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said Friday the US software giant remained interested in acquiring Yahoo's search business and would rather do a deal "sooner than later." "I think a search deal makes great sense for Microsoft, and Yahoo," Ballmer said in an interview published in the online edition of The Wall Street Journal. "I think I've been very open about that." "I think good ideas are usually better done quickly than slowly, so it would probably be better for both us, and certainly for Yahoo, if we were to do it sooner than later," he said. "But at the end of the day, that would have be something Yahoo would be as interested in as I have expressed our interest." Asked by the newspaper whether the Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft and Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo were in talks, Ballmer replied: "Th
