Radiohead Changes Tack, Joins iTunes

Joe Jay Bee writes "The British rock band Radiohead, who previously stated that they wouldn't want to have their music on Apple's iTunes Music Store (and, indeed, were unhappy when their Kid A album was released via the store) have performed something of an about-face; virtually their entire catalog, including singles and their B-Sides, has appeared on the store. The band previously said they only wanted their work sold as complete albums, which Apple refused to go along with; however their tack has apparently changed, and all their songs are available to mix and match, including their most recent work, In Rainbows. The albums are all available in DRM-free AAC format."

Dance review: Romeo and Juliet / Royal Opera House, London

We know that Marianela Nuñez and Thiago Soares have chemistry, given the roles on which they have already stamped their partnership: their sparky duelling of wits in Coppelia, their entranced reading of the Diamonds section in Balanchine's Jewels last year. But Romeo and Juliet calls for more than a sympathetic current between dancers; it requires an ability to plumb turmoil and despair, as well as extraordinary technique. And, though a crowded opera house gave Nuñez and Soares a deservedly rapt response after their debut in Sir Kenneth MacMillan's ballet, their joint performance is one that needs time to mature.

Smartphone Battle Is Shaping Up As RIM Vs. Apple

TeknoFin notes a piece in the NYTimes on the fight RIM finds itself in as the smartphone market shifts to a consumer focus, impelled by the iPhone. For the last 10 years RIM has dominated a smartphone market consisting mainly of email-obsessed corporate professionals. Analysts wonder if RIM can hold on to their lead as their strengths — such as cozy relations with cell carriers worldwide — are diluted by new entrants Apple and Google, who are "vocally trying to dislodge the carriers from the nexus of the North American wireless market." One of RIM's strengths in the corporate market has been their security. Yet Apple executives have said that one-third of Fortune 500 companies were interested in giving iPhones — with all their known and potential security holes — to their employees.

Google's Protests Much Me Thinks

Google doesn't operate a network, if uses others. They take this attitude like all people who want a free ride. Verizon has a valid need to test an application on it's network before letting it on it. What if a new application causes network problems for Verizon's network and their Customers on that network. Will Google make Verizon whole if they lose business because of a snafu is loosed on their network by some rouge application. Give me a break. Will Google allow me to put applications on their servers without and testing> I doubt it would. I would put up such a fuss about their right to control their network, etc. Get a real life Google.

Around 70 percent also felt that their jobs are secure, and that they are expecting a salary increase next year. Secrets stolen? No, just the intellectual property

World Intellectual Property Day (April 26 of each year) came and went; pundits and politicians all made their statements, countries and their counsels all presented their positions, international organizations implored their members to protect intellectual property and the creativity and innovation represented. All focused on the eventuality of having intellectual property universally protected. They set themselves a most honorable goal, indeed, perhaps a seemingly lofty goal.
