I was tempted just to post the picture above, naked, alone and ā more importantly ā defenseless against your cruel and merciless ridicule. But of course, I couldn't. The Soaripod is just too ripe -- a sweet, soft target in these slow pre-Christmas weeks. Here we go:

The Nintendo Wii is still red-hot. Two years after its release, shoppers continue to have a hard time finding it in stores. One might be tempted to say the console can do no wrong, except that's not exactly true. Wii Music, the much-hyped game from renowned designer Shigeru Miyamoto, is considered by some to be, well, a bit of a flop.

Yeah, your iPhone has access to that high-speed cellular data network. But admit it: you use Wi-Fi whenever you can, right? Why, these days I'm tempted to walk into every Starbucks I pass and log in for free Wi-Fi just because I can! 3G may beat EDGE, but Wi-Fi beats both.

firthisaword writes "I will be teaching an enrichment programming course to 11-14 year old gifted children in the Spring. It is meant as an introduction to very basic programming paradigms (conditions, variables, loops, etc.), but the kids will invariably have a mix of experience in dealing with computers and programming. The question: Which programming language would be best for starting these kids off on? I am tempted by QBasic which I remember from my early days ā it is straightforward and fast, if antiquated and barely supported under XP. Others have suggested Pascal which was conceived as an instructional pseudocode language. Does anyone have experience in that age range? Anything you would recommend? And as a P.S: Out of the innumerable little puzzles/programs/tasks that novice programmers get introduced to such as Fibonacci numbe

"Some users question whether sudo is less secure than su. Because both rely on passwords, they share the same strengths and weaknesses. If the password is compromised, the system is compromised. However, if the password of a user who is allowed by sudo to do one task is compromised, the entire system may not be at risk. Thus, if used properly, the finer granularity of sudo's permissions structure can make it a more secure tool than su. Also, when sudo is used to invoke a single command, it is less likely that a user will be tempted to keep working with root privileges than if the user opens a root shell with su."
