Telecoms: Commission concerned over German regulator's failure to notify mobile termination rates

The European Commission, in a letter made public today, requested the German telecoms regulator, Bundesnetzagentur ("BNetzA"), to notify it of all German mobile operators' termination rates, the wholesale tariffs charged by the operator of a customer receiving a phone call to the operator of the caller's network. Mobile termination rates are relatively high in Germany compared to several other Member States. The Commission underlines that these rates need to be notified to it under the EU telecoms rules (

Mobile tender cancelled (again)

Bulgarian telecoms regulator the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) has cancelled the tender for two mobile telecoms licences after it received no bids by the 27 November deadline. Three companies were reported to have bought tender paperwork, including Globul, the country's second-largest mobile operator. This is the second time this year that the CRC has cancelled the tender: in July it had to scrap the tender after attracting a single bid - from Liechtenstein-registered Telco - which did not fully meet the tender criteria.

NEW DELHI, Dec 30 (Reuters) - India has delayed a global auction of third-generation spectrum by around two weeks to Jan. 30, the telecoms ministry said on Tuesday, citing a request from potential bidders for more time. The auction was originally scheduled for Jan. 16. The deadline for applications to participate in the auction has been extended to Jan. 15, from Jan. 5 set earlier, the government statement said. An auction for broadband wireless spectrum would be held two days after the close of the 3G spectrum auction. Europe : Annual revenues from the global mobile market will top USD 1.03 trillion by 2013, when the number of subscriptions worldwide will have risen to more than 5.3 billion, according to Informa Telecoms & Media. Reducing Risk In Global Telecom Services Sourcing

Buyers need to address four categories of risk when sourcing global telecommunication services: (1) physical risks to the network and local business operations; (2) geographic risks including local regulations and business practices; (3) commercial risks like vendor mergers and acquisitions or major changes to the customer’s own business; and (4) contractual risks that undermine governance and vendor management.
