Tech Firms Oppose Union Organizing

cedarhillbilly passes along a piece from TheHill.com on the chilly reception that tech firms and lobbying groups are giving to a bill promoting union formation, which has a chance of passing in a more strongly Democratic congress and with a Democratic president. "Up to now, large tech groups have been on the sidelines in what is likely to be one of the roughest fights in Congress next year. A few, however, are preparing to weigh in. That makes other tech lobbyists nervous that, by doing so, the industry could sacrifice relatively good relationships with Democrats and, therefore, jeopardize some of their other legislative priorities."

Where the Tech Jobs Are, Part 1

The U.S. economy is bleeding jobs, but -- at least, so far -- the high-tech industry is something of a safe haven. That's not to say there haven't been tech losses or that it's easy to find an IT job. However, people with the right skill sets and the savvy to sniff out the particular areas of demand are much better positioned than professionals in some of the more-beleaguered industries.

Predictions 2009: Emerging Tech Markets

Despite the dire straits of the world economy, emerging markets continue to hold significant promise for the tech industry. Increased business and consumer use of the Internet and information and communication technology (ICT) drives infrastructure requirements in emerging markets. That growth will continue and will spur technology spending. Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) will remain a force. However, savvy tech marketers will reach further still for opportunities in more fertile fields within less hyped, but also promising, markets. Specific emerging market opportunities will spring from marketers’ global community building and aggressive local adoption of software-as-a-service (SaaS).
