China Mobile signs TD-SCDMA network leasing deal with CMCC

China Mobile has signed a TD-SCDMA network leasing agreement with state-owned TD-SCDMAl network operator CMCC. Under the agreement, China Mobile will lease TD network capacity and pay leasing fees to CMCC. The term of the network capacity leasing Agreement is one year and the agreement can be renewed if the parties so wish. The leasing fees shall be determined on a basis that reflects the China Mobile's actual usage of CMCC's TD network capacity and to compensate CMCC for the costs of such network capacity. China Mobile expects the yearly fees to amount up to RMB 1 billion.

Designers cutting R & D on possible reduction of TD-SCDMA handsettenders

INTERFAX-CHINA - Mobile handset design companies in China are cutting their research and development of TD-SCDMA due to the possibility that China Mobile could reduce its TD-SCDMA handset purchases in 2009, industry insiders told Interfax recently. "Our company has been cutting jobs in its TD-SCDMA handset R & D team and has recently merged the team with the CDMA handset R & D team to form a new 3G mobile handset R & D division," a member of the R & D staff of mobile phone design company Shanghai Simcom, who wished not to be identified, told Interfax on Dec. 29. Shanghai Simcom, which is a subsidiary of SIM Technology Group Ltd., was among the first batch of companies to start designing TD-SCDMA mobile phones.

China Mobile leases TD-SCDMA network from parent

China Mobile has agreed to lease the TD-SCDMA network being built by its parent, China Mobile Communications (CMCC), and has announced that it will pay a maximum of RMB1 billion (USD146 million) during 2009. The company has already invested some USD2 billion building its trial network. The rental figure has been agreed on by taking estimates of traffic and usage on the network by China Mobile subscribers. China's CCID Consulting issued a report earlier this year which predicted that the country would have 51 million TD-CDMA subscribers by 2011.
