By year-end 2007, 21% of US online consumers had purchased from an online auction in the past 12 months, representing a hefty slice of the eCommerce pie. Young, affluent, and tech-savvy, online auction purchasers are an attractive segment of the Web buyer population. Despite ongoing fraud concerns, most online auction buyers report being satisfied with their most recent purchase and are likely to return for future purchases. This enthusiast crowd has reached a point of limited growth, though, as evidenced by eBay's slowing sales of merchandise in the US. Most eBusiness professionals at retail organizations will stay out of direct sales via eBay and capitalize on the audience by using eBay as a marketing platform.

This is one of those press releases that makes you go "Sorry... what?" in disbelief: System of Proof is a service that lets you covertly record a conversation on any phone. It sounds very CIA: dial a special number from the phone, and a distant computer then records the conversation and emails you the final file for you to peruse later. It apparently works with any phone, including VoIP, and the company pitches it as a tool for capturing phone calls you wish you had as evidence. You know: harassment at work or home, cheating spouses, failed business dealings. There's also the innocent "record your lectures to make sure you don't miss pertinent exam notes" option. The service costs up to $9.95 per month, with this top-end price having unlimited spying minutes.

The complaints are coming mostly from journalists and political activists, however, they all ring of the same problem: some twenty percent of cell phone calls are met with the receiver hearing his or her own voice coming back in an echo. And its a new phenomenon. The caller can hear the person called repeating “Hello” over and over again but the receiver can only hearing his or her own voice being pinged back.
