The town motto of Aklavik, an Arctic hamlet huddled at the Mackenzie River Delta in the Northwest Territories, is "Never Say Die." So when the close-knit community of 600 noticed an alarming trend — a high number of people were getting sick with stomach cancer — they decided to act. "In the past, we hardly ever buried anyone except elders. The graveyard wasn't touched for so long," says child-care worker Annie Buckle, 54. Now, "there's a new gravesite. You'd be surprised by the dates [on the headstones]." Buckle says she lost her mother to stomach cancer last year.

"During the trailer, I looked away from the television very briefly. Watching someone's stomach come apart in slow motion wasn't something I was expecting. But it didn't happen that way in the game. My grenade was lobbed from a distance, exploded and split a Nazi soldier in two. It was a "holy s-" moment. I describe it that way because those are the exact words that came out of my mouth after it happened."

As my train pulled away from New York's Penn station, the butterflies in my stomach began to settle down; I had gotten on the correct train with the correct ticket headed for the correct city. My destination: CFUnited, the world's premier ColdFusion conference. This year, not only did I attend the conference for the first time, I was charged with the task of reviewing my experience. And, what better place is there to start, as they say, then at the beginning.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt appeared on the Jim Cramer CNBC show "Mad Money" today, mugging along with the usual Cramerian theatrics and clutching his stomach comically when Cramer told an anecdote about how his fifth-grader daughter wasn't allowed to use Google. But Schmidt also said something that perked our ears right up: He said Google's stock would never split-because Berkshire Hathaway's stock hasn't split and that has worked out very well for Warren Buffett's investment vehicle.

Murata Girl, aka Seiko-chan, with her twin sister at Ceatec 2008. She's just one of several robots being demonstrated here at the Japanese electronics show outside of Tokyo. Murata Girl can ride forward and backward at 2 inches per second--or idle in place. Tiny sensors tell the bot when it's about to bump into something, and gyroscopes on her back, plus a spinning disc embedded in her stomach, help her stay balanced. She can be controlled via a Bluetooth wand (not pictured).

We recently mentioned an event at the Parsons New School for Design and Technology in which students were divided into teams, given copies of LittleBigPlanet, and had 24 hours to develop levels for the game. GameSetWatch has the story of how the design contest went, what the winners and other notable finishers designed, and how the judges were surprised that "what they played could be completed in 24 hours." Further coverage is available at GameSpot, including a videos of several different levels. "Team Good Sportsmanship's level consisted of a single massive moving monster. SackBoy had to find his way up the monster, go through its digestive track while dodging stomach acid and eventually get on top of its head. The level featured an anatomical tour of the beast, complete with rib cage, beating heart even a dangling uvula.
