So far the Stanford experience has been generally very enjoyable here in Antigua. The ground looks magnificent, the event has been very well organised and the welcome has been incredibly friendly.

This week a UNICEF report revealed that the UK's children are the poorest, fattest, most promiscuous, most pissed, most stoned, most dysfunctional and probably worst at Pictionary of most rich nations. The causes of all this childhood grief are clearly complicated, but in the ensuing debate, pundits and the public were quick to highlight the obvious root cause: lack of discipline.

Raw milk is illegal in many countries as it can be contaminated with potentially harmful microbes. Contamination can also spoil the milk, making it taste bitter and turn thick and sticky. Now scientists have discovered new species of bacteria that can grow at low temperatures, spoiling raw milk even when it is refrigerated. According to research published in the November issue of the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, the microbial population of raw milk is much more complex than previously thought.

HOUSTON: After several days without luck, astronauts finally ran a successful test on equipment that turns urine into drinking water - a necessity for supporting the international space station's crew, which will soon double. "Not to spoil anything, but I think up here the appropriate words are 'Yippee!"' space station commander Mike Fincke told Mission Control early yesterday morning, shortly before bedtime. "There will be dancing later," Mission Control replied. Astronauts had spent a frustrating five

Seemingly, the current space shuttle mission, STS-126, has been all about two things: recycling and restoring. The crew has been working almost nonstop to get a new system that turns urine into drinking water to work correctly; and spacewalkers spent a majority of four grueling EVAs cleaning and lubricating a jammed solar-wing joint on the station's right side. And now there's good news to report on both fronts. The urine recycling system now seems to be working perfectly. "Not to spoil anything, but I think up here the appropriate words are 'Yippee!'" space station commander Mike Fincke told ground controllers. Mission Control replied, "There will be dancing later." The recycling system will be a necessity for supporting the International Space Station's crew, which will increase from three to six in early 2009.
