LHC to take up ICA against ban on stage dances tomorrow

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Syed Asghar Haider, on Monday (tomorrow) will hold proceedings on an inter-court appeal (ICA) against the ban on stage dances. Stage-drama producer Zaheer Hussain Adil moved the appeal. Earlier, a single bench on November 12 had imposed a ban on songs/dances in stage dramas, declaring them an un-Islamic act. The petitioner’s counsel, Imran Aziz Khan, submitted that the judgment of the single bench was in conflict with an earlier judgment of the LHC, which, according to him, stated that songs and dances in theatrical performances might not be entirely banned. The counsel said that the single bench, while deciding the matter, ignored the fact that the government, in its May 17, 2008 notification, had banned songs and dances in only fou
