More Than 100 Million Songs Requested Using Song ID Since Application Launched BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Laura Magnuson of South Dakota is the Verizon Wireless customer who downloaded the 10 millionth Song ID application to her Verizon Wireless phone. Song ID is a free application that lets consumers quickly identify songs they hear simply by holding their wireless phones up to the source of music, then letting the application find the name and artist -- generally in fewer than 10 seconds. "I'm a big music fan, and I use Song ID a lot, especially when I hear a new song and want to know what it is right away. Song ID automatically sends me an e-mail so I have a reminder of the song and can decide if I want to buy it," said Magnuson.

An anonymous reader writes "We've all heard Weird Al Yankovic's 'Don't Download This Song,' which came out a couple years ago, but did you know that MTV is apparently so afraid that kids listening to the song will discover for the first time that file sharing offerings exist that in its video of the song, MTV bleeps out their names? There's a line in the song that lists out Morpheus, Grokster, Kazaa and Limewire (most of whom don't really exist any more), but for some reason MTV considers those names to be bleep worthy." Unless this is all one grand inside joke from Weird Al.

GameXtract writes "Remember the Sea of Dreams trailer that was under-covered from the PS3 version of Bioshock? While the release of this trailer will surely brings lots of speculation to the table about what the new title will have in store for gamers, I found my attention caught towards the song used in the trailer. The melodic music fits perfectly with the world of Rapture, and emphasizes the city in such a positive way. For those that felt attached to the music just like myself will be able to hear the full song through the video below. Enjoy!"

"Listening to 'Keroauc' by Tim Young Band feels like a cross-country adventure that harkens back to the esteemed Beat writer Jack Kerouac, of whom the song refers to. In the song's video, Young is seen playing guitar all over the city of New York on street corners and sidewalks. Young appears to be having a blast - and rightly so. 'Kerouac' is a highly enjoyable song that will conjure up thoughts of hitting the road with only a notebook in hand, just like Jack did so many years ago."

dtjohnson writes "A Harvard law school professor has submitted arguments on behalf of Joel Tenenbaum in RIAA v. Tenenbaum in which Professor Charles Neeson claims that the underlying law that the RIAA uses is actually a criminal, rather than civil, statute and is therefore unconstitutional. According to this article, 'Neeson charges that the federal law is essentially a criminal statute in that it seeks to punish violators with minimum statutory penalties far in excess of actual damages. The market value of a song is 99 cents on iTunes; of seven songs, $6.93. Yet the statutory damages are a minimum of $750 per song, escalating to as much as $150,000 per song for infringement "committed willfully."' If the law is a criminal statute, Neeson then claims that it violates the 5th and 8th amendments and is therefore unconstitutional.
