Six Apart reduced the size of its full time staff by around 8% and are making some organizational changes. In 2008, Six Apart welcomed almost 90 new people and grew to a company of over 200 employees. It also launched Six Apart Services, Six Apart Media, Blogs.com, Movable Type Open Source and MT Pro, a suite of TypePad-powered products, including Blog It, Blog Link, the TypePad iPhone app, and TypePad AntiSpam, and reached the final stage of the migration of TypePad onto a new platform. Some of the organizational changes being made are: creating Six Apart "Genius" group, growing Six Apart services, and creating one hosted technology team. Management has agreed to take a 15% salary cut as part of the cost cutting measures.

Blog tech and advertising company Six Apart has acquired micro-blogging platform Pownce for an undisclosed sum, VB reports. But don’t expect Pownce, which lets users broadcast short messages (including videos, photos and mp3s) to be embedded into any of Six Apart’s current blogging tools—at least not in its current form—as Six Apart is pulling the plug on the service as of Dec 15. Pownce’s lead developers Leah Culver and Mike Malone will likely take on similar roles within Six Apart, and its technology will be pulled into Six Apart’s overall infrastructure.
