Sony shows added to UK iTunes Store, Fox Classics may follow

It may just be me, but Apple appears to be expanding the selection of television shows on the UK iTunes Store fairly rapidly these days. A number of Universal shows were added earlier this month and some BBC content appeared in February. As of this week, the stable of TV content has gotten even larger. Macworld UK observed yesterday that a number of Sony shows had been added to the Store, and also took note of the existence of a section for Fox.

Bienvenue! French, US TV shows land in iTunes France

France has become the fifth country worldwide to welcome TV shows to its localized iTunes Store. Apple announced this morning the availability of shows from French networks TF1, France Télévisions, Arte, Mediatoon’s Dargaud TV, and Dupuis TV, in addition to shows from US networks MTV and Disney.

Sony's Crackle Debuts New Series; Will Host "Take-Away Shows"

Sausalito, Calif. - Sony Pictures Entertainment's (NYSE: SNE) Crackle online video network on Monday announced the release of three nine new original series, including a deal to host "The Take-Away Shows," a Web music video series that offers intimate "street" performances from indie bands. Other shows debuting on Crackle include "The Jace Hall Show," and the second seasons of "Purple Onion" and "C-Spot."

HBO joins iTunes along with variable pricing

HBO shows are now part of iTunes and with them comes a new pricing model. Shows in the 30 minute range are $1.99 and shows in the 60 minute range are $2.99.

NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander: Exploring the arctic plains of Mars

Photographed by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, this picture shows the Phoenix Mars Lander on its final descent on to the red planet. This image has been brightened to show the landscape of Mars in the background. This is one of the first images broadcast from the Phoenix after landing on the surface of Mars. It shows the tiny pebbles and polygonal cracking of the Martian landscape. The same image is seen here, brightened to Earth day standards. This black and white image shows a region of polygonal cracking in the Martian ground. This cracking occurs in a similar fashion in the icy ground of the Arctic regions of Earth. Here the image is converted to full colour, showing red Martian ‘soil’. The Phoenix lander photographs its own footpad to check stability.

TiVo on Tuesday announced it has teamed up with Amazon to offer buyers the opportunity to buy items associated with the shows they're watching via their TiVo remote. The new Product Purchase feature gives television advertisers to promote products sold on Amazon.com via in-show pop-ups that are related to mainstream TV shows. The feature would not only allow the possibility of viewers purchasing products advertised during commercial breaks, but products featured on shows, such as a new album or book of a guest on a talk show such as Oprah.

eBay shows off auction app for iPhone

At Apple's WWDC 2008 in San Francisco, Ken Sun of eBay shows off Auctions on the iPhone. The new app has a basic front door with options to track auctions you've bid on, and see whether you've been outbid. TV shows arrive at French iTunes Store...

After some delay relative to its neighbors in Europe, France is the latest country to officially gain access to TV shows through the iTunes Store (link). Content consists of a mix of foreign and local programming, with local networks including ARTE, Dargaud TV, Dupuis TV, France 2 and TF1 Vision. The two foreign broadcasters are American ones, ABC and MTV.
