Your website communicates with other computers and the internet by using its network adapter or NIC (Network Interface Card) that is within the server. This card and thereby the server uses a unique address known as an IP address. An IPv4 ip address is a address annotated as four numbers segmented by dots. Each segment or octet can have a value between zero and 255, so your dedicated server or business computer address format would look similar to this: 172.16.65.17 On a Windows Server you can determine what the server ip address is by selecting the start button then selecting run. Type in ipconfig and click "OK", a black command prompt should appear in which you can type ipconfig. On a Linux Server you can open a terminal window and type ifconfig.

Thinking that the Linux Web server (which used a Microsoft XBOX for its hardware) was a normal game console, he snuck the device out of the server room and home for his son to play over the holiday weekend. The philosophy students who used the server for their class were not amused."

IBM, Oracle and SAP were sued by a closely held company that accuses them of infringing its patents. Implicit Networks, based in Seattle, claims the three companies and Adobe Systems are violating two patents for computer-server software that performs faster security functions. The patents were issued from 1998 and 2001 applications. The complaint, filed July 15 in federal court in Seattle, targets IBM's Websphere Application Server, Oracle's Application Server and BEA WebLogic Server, SAP's NetWeaver and Adobe's JRun and ColdFusion products. Implicit seeks a "royalty" and didn't specifically ask that sales of any products be halted. Oracle is the world's second-biggest software maker, behind Microsoft. IBM is third in software. SAP, based in Walldorf, Germany, is the world's biggest maker of business-management software, and Adobe is the

AJAX has become so popular because it allows a browser to initiate a request to the server to receive or push data. Pushing data from the server to a client at an undetermined interval has been a problem that AJAX has never been able to deal with well. Simple examples of applications that AJAX does not handle well due to the need for server push are chat applications, live temperature updates, tailing log files, and calling long running queries. Comet can solve this problem. Comet is a web application architecture that allows a web server to send data to a browser without any need for the browser to request the data. Three common examples of allowing a server to push data to a browser are: polling, long polling, and streaming. Long polling and streaming are two strategies that are considered Comet.

With the growing use of XML data, the need for the coexistence of relational data and XML data is also growing. The classic approach of storing XML data as physical disk files is unsuitable and tedious in many situations. No wonder modern database engines are geared to store XML documents right along with the rest of the relational data. To that end, the XML data type introduced in SQL Server 2005 is a great addition to the database engine. Prior to SQL Server 2005, developers often used VARCHAR or TEXT column types to store XML documents and fragments. Although this approach served well as far as data storage is concerned, it proved to be poor in terms of querying and manipulating the XML data. Now, the OpenSimulator project has been gathering some solid momentum, and this was followed by an announcement by IBM that showed interoperability between OpenSimulator and Linden Servers. What this means is that you can use a Second Life client to log on to an OpenSim server. Beyond that, anyone can run their own server. 'Working with the protocols derived from the official Second Life client, and a knowledge of how Second Life works, these people have implemented their own compatible server code.' It is only a matter of time before users will be able to move profiles, virtual goods, and other elements of their 'second life' on to any server in a truly open world, thereby threatening Linden Labs' virtu
